About us

At Dyson, Virtual Engineering equips our engineers with advanced simulation and analysis tools—ANSYS Mechanical, Fluent, LS-Dyna, and BETA CAE ANSA/META—to solve complex design challenges. Our team of mechanical engineers is modernising how we work under our StAND vision:

Standardise our processes, Automate routine work, and Democratise access to simulation across Dyson.

About the role

You'll play a vital role in building and automating simulation workflows to help Dyson teams work faster and more consistently. Over 12 months, you’ll write and refine scripts and tools that support simulation setup, automation, and deployment for platforms like ANSYS, Fluent, LS-Dyna, and ANSA/META—making our workflows more productive and accessible.

A core requirement is the effective use of GitHub to accelerate coding and apply spec-driven coding practices.  You will also help us deploy the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to make Copilot smarter, ensuring it has the specific context needed to write accurate code for our specialized engineering tools. You’ll share these workflows within our Community of Practice, helping our engineers embrace modern, AI-assisted scripting.

Depending on your progress, you’ll also contribute to our data strategy by exploring Neo4j—both to build a digital thread across our simulation and product data, and to make engineering knowledge accessible to LLMs for advanced AI-driven automation.

You’ll document your work, support workflow improvements, and collaborate closely with mechanical engineers to ensure real-world benefit and long-term value.

About you

  • You’re an undergraduate studying Computer Science or a related field, strong with Python and interested in coding for engineering.

  • Proficient in GitHub Copilot and spec-driven development—you use it everyday, keep up with new features, and are keen to help others adopt it effectively.

  • Interested in automation, and ready to learn simulation platforms such as ANSYS or ANSA/META in a practical setting.

  • Comfortable understanding technical documentation and translating it into scripts or clear workflows.

  • Curious about the potential of AI integrations (like MCP) and data connectivity (like Neo4j) in a real engineering environment.

  • Communicate clearly, enjoy collaboration and documentation, and proactively share lessons learned.

  • Self-motivated, with a drive to experiment, ask questions, and help the team work smarter.
