As a Data Engineering Manager at Dyson, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and guiding a small team of data engineers within the Data and Analytics group. You will provide hands-on technical leadership in the Data domain, ensuring the team leverages a diverse set of Data technologies and remains adaptable to evolving requirements and industry trends. Your leadership will be instrumental in fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with business stakeholders to help prioritise projects and align data engineering initiatives with broader business objectives. You will be responsible for mentoring and developing your team, driving the delivery of robust, reliable data solutions that adhere to industry best practices. Additionally, you will actively contribute to technical design reviews, offering constructive feedback and ensuring high standards throughout the delivery lifecycle.
Your responsibilities will include designing, building, and optimising scalable data solutions for analytics, as well as establishing and maintaining efficient workflows and good practices across a global data engineering environment. You will champion clear documentation standards and lead efforts to enhance data quality, reliability, data lineage, and governance. Your expertise and guidance will support the professional growth of your team and the ongoing improvement of data engineering processes at Dyson.
Key Competencies
8+ years of relevant experience in data engineering or related fields
Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring data engineering teams
Proven ability to manage and deliver complex data engineering projects through all stages
Expertise in designing, developing and optimising data pipelines and solutions
Advanced proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL, DBT)
Extensive experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
Strong knowledge of CI/CD, DataOps, and modern data engineering best practices
Strategic Leadership and Influence
You will take a central role in defining and executing data engineering strategy, actively shaping the vision and roadmap for data-driven initiatives across the organisation. You will lead a small, high-performing team, providing mentorship and direction to ensure successful project outcomes and alignment with business priorities. By instilling a culture of excellence in documentation, best practices, and workflow efficiency, you will drive continuous improvement and ensure the team remains at the forefront of emerging technologies. Your leadership will be instrumental in upholding and advancing the highest standards for data quality, reliability, and governance on a global scale.
Technical Proficiencies
With over eight years of experience in data engineering or related disciplines, you possess a deep understanding of the end-to-end project lifecycle and a proven record of delivering complex data solutions. Your technical expertise encompasses the design, development, and optimisation of scalable data pipelines and analytics platforms. You are highly proficient in leading programming languages such as Python, SQL, and DBT, and bring substantial experience with major cloud environments, including AWS, GCP, or Azure. Your knowledge of CI/CD, DataOps, and modern data engineering best practices allows you to set technical direction, conduct thorough design reviews, and provide constructive feedback that ensures robust, reliable outcomes. As the technical authority for your team, you guide architectural decisions and champion innovation in data engineering solutions.
Academic Credentials
You hold an advanced degree—Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD—in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, forming a strong academic basis for your senior expertise and leadership within the data domain.
