About the role

As a Design Intern at Dyson Malaysia, you will gain hands-on experience by supporting live product development projects within the Floorcare Engineering team. Working closely with experienced Design Engineers, you will apply your academic knowledge to real-world engineering challenges while developing practical skills in mechanical design and product development.

Your responsibilities will include assisting with the development of mechanical parts, assemblies, and systems, supporting activities across the design lifecycle—from early concepts through prototyping and testing. You will contribute to sketching, CAD modelling, preparing technical drawings, building prototypes, and supporting test activities to help validate and refine designs in line with Dyson’s standards.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and participate in design discussions and technical reviews, gaining exposure to professional engineering practices in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.

As part of the Floorcare team, you will be working alongside passionate engineers who are redefining how people clean their homes. The team continuously iterates, tests, and improves products to ensure Dyson remains at the forefront of floorcare technology. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to learn, contribute meaningfully to real projects, and develop a strong foundation in design engineering.

About you

You will be currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably in mechanical engineering, electromechanical engineering, or product design.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

• A strong interest in product design and mechanical engineering
• Basic proficiency in 3D CAD modelling and 2D technical drawings
• An understanding of core engineering principles and problem-solving approaches
• A practical and methodical mindset, with a willingness to learn through prototyping, testing, and iteration
• Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment by participating in design reviews, brainstorming sessions, and technical discussions
• Curiosity, enthusiasm for engineering, and a desire for continuous learning and improvement
• Able to evidence how you have applied your technical knowledge to solve problems, either through your university projects or as part of your extra-curricular activities

Any exposure through coursework, internships, or projects involving plastic, rubber, or metal components, design for manufacturing (DFM), or design for assembly (DFA) will be considered an advantage. Knowledge or interest in areas such as fluid dynamics, thermals, acoustics, electronics, manufacturing processes, or measurement techniques will also be beneficial.
