About us
Dyson is a global technology company that sets out to solve the problems others ignore. We create machines that are different, better and more useful through inventive engineering, relentless testing and a refusal to accept conventional answers.
Design Engineering is at the heart of product creation. Our Design Engineers solve engineering problems, introduce new ideas and turn technical challenges into products that work better for our users. At Dyson, graduates are encouraged to think differently, challenge convention, learn quickly and contribute from the outset.
We are developing a confidential new product category and looking for a Graduate Design Engineer who wants to help shape what comes next. This is an opportunity to work on unfamiliar problems, learn from experienced engineers and contribute to bold ideas that can become robust, manufacturable and trusted Dyson products.
About the role
As a Graduate Design Engineer in the Singapore Design Engineering Team, supporting New Product Category development at the Singapore Technology Centre, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team to support the development of new and innovative products from early concept through to production.
You will apply your engineering knowledge to real product development challenges, helping the team define design requirements, generate and evaluate concepts, build and learn from prototypes, analyse test results and improve product robustness. You will work closely with senior engineers, technical leads, external development partners, manufacturing, quality, operations, procurement, test and global engineering teams.
This role is suited to a graduate or early-career engineer who is building technical depth in product development and wants to learn how Dyson turns ideas into reliable, manufacturable products. You will be given defined areas of responsibility, with support and guidance from experienced engineers, while being expected to show curiosity, ownership, clear thinking and a practical approach to solving problems.
Responsibilities include:
Support the development of product parts, assemblies and design solutions that meet agreed requirements for function, performance, reliability, safety, quality, cost and timing.
Help translate product and technical problems into clear design requirements, with measurable objectives and consideration of technical, manufacturing and cost constraints.
Generate design concepts and evaluate them against design requirements, user needs, manufacturability and technical risk.
Apply design for manufacture and design for assembly principles when developing and reviewing design solutions.
Create, review or manage 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, tolerance stacks and engineering documentation to support design development, review and release.
Support tolerance analysis to understand the impact of variation on part, assembly and product performance.
Build and support mock-ups, rigs, functional prototypes and test samples to prove concepts, investigate problems and support design reviews.
Help define and conduct tests to identify design risks, understand functional limits and verify product performance, reliability and durability.
Analyse test results, design issues and failures to identify root causes and recommend practical corrective actions.
Support risk identification and mitigation by working with cross-functional teams and using appropriate engineering tools and evidence.
Participate in design reviews, technical reviews and project discussions, presenting design ideas, evidence, risks and recommendations clearly.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including senior engineers, technical leads, system owners, external development partners, quality, manufacturing, operations, procurement, suppliers and global engineering teams.
Support supplier, manufacturing and build-related activities by reviewing technical inputs, part quality information and design feedback where required.
Capture learning, design rationale and technical evidence to support future design decisions and continuous improvement.
Plan and prioritise assigned work, monitor progress and escalate risks or blockers when support is needed.
About you
A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Product Development, Mechatronics, Science or an equivalent technical discipline.
Fresh graduate with relevant internship, industrial training, final-year project or product design experience; or an early-career engineer with less than two years of relevant working experience.
Exposure to mechanical design, product development, prototyping, testing or manufacturing environments.
Basic understanding of plastic, rubber, metal or mechanical assembly design, with awareness of DFM and DFA principles.
Good knowledge of 3D CAD, 2D engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerance stack-up and design documentation, with the ability to review and guide CAD and drawing outputs.
Understanding of prototyping, verification testing and the use of test evidence to support design decisions.
Able to apply engineering fundamentals to solve practical problems in a structured and methodical way.
Curious and analytical, with the ability to learn quickly, ask good questions and use data to support recommendations.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced and ambiguous product development environment, with support and guidance from experienced engineers.
Able to work effectively as both an individual contributor and as part of a cross-functional team.
Good communication skills, with the ability to explain technical ideas, design rationale, risks and findings clearly.
Passionate about engineering and product design, with the drive to help make products that are meaningfully better.
Desirable
Internship, industrial training or project experience in consumer products, home appliances, mechanical systems or product R&D.
Exposure to plastic injection moulding, tooling, component manufacturing processes, assembly processes or quality control.
Basic awareness of DFMEA, PFMEA, risk assessment or other engineering problem-solving tools.
Ability to hand sketch ideas in 2D or 3D to communicate design intent.
Familiarity with statistical analysis, measurement methods or product verification testing.
Exposure to technical disciplines such as thermals, acoustics, fluid flow, electronics, mechanisms or human factors would be an advantage.
Benefits
Dyson Singapore monitors the market to ensure competitive salaries and bonuses. Beyond that, you’ll enjoy a transport allowance and comprehensive medical care and insurance. But financial benefits are just the start of a Dyson career. Professional growth, technical development and new opportunities abound, driven by regular reviews, workshops and hands-on project experience.
You’ll join a team environment shaped by engineering curiosity, collaboration and a shared ambition to make products that work better. At Dyson, graduates are trusted with real work, supported by experienced people and encouraged to keep learning as they build their engineering career.
