This role will represent Technology Development & Verification in China as the function expand and grow, ensuring our people, capability and operating environment are set up to deliver outstanding technical outcomes across categories. 

About the Role 

The Head of Technology Development & Verification - China is the most senior person for the function in China and the primary in-country representative for the Director of Technology Development. 

The role will initially operate through a dotted-line and matrix leadership model, working closely with category and local engineering leaders. Although the reporting model may evolve over time, the role carries clear accountability for functional leadership, organisational effectiveness, capability development and site readiness for Technology Development & Verification in China. 

This is a senior leadership role for someone who can build traction in a complex environment: aligning stakeholders, developing teams, improving allocation of capability, and ensuring the practical enablers required to operate effectively in China are understood, prioritised and progressed. 

What You’ll Be Doing 

Represent Technology Development & Verification in China 

• Act as the senior in-country leader and representative for the function across China. 

• Represent China needs, opportunities and constraints into the global Technology Development & Verification leadership community. 

• Ensure China-based teams remain connected to global standards, priorities and ways of working while reflecting local operating realities. 

• Represent NPD Technology Development & Verification in partnering with JDM and cross-regional, cross-functional teams to set clear expectations, align ways of working and ensure JDM delivery meets Dyson standards. 

Build Capability and Develop the China Organisation 

• Support the growth, development and effectiveness of the Technology Development & Verification community in China. 

• Coach local leaders, strengthen succession and talent pipelines, and help teams access the right development opportunities. 

• Create a connected engineering community with clear expectations, strong collaboration and a shared sense of purpose. 

Support Cross-Category Delivery and Allocation 

• Work across all categories in China to understand capability demand, resource constraints and competing priorities. 

• Support effective allocation of people and specialist capability so teams can deliver the highest-value outcomes for Dyson. 

• Help resolve cross-category tensions and ensure functional capability is deployed where it has the greatest impact. 

Drive Site Readiness and Operational Enablement 

• Gain traction on the critical enablers required for Technology Development & Verification teams to operate effectively in China. 

• Work with the relevant owners to progress facilities, safety, security, IT, tooling, workspace, governance and support processes. 

• Identify barriers to execution and bring stakeholders together to move them to resolution with pace and clarity. 

Lead Through Influence and Stakeholder Alignment 

• Build strong relationships across category leadership, engineering, site operations, HR and corporate functions. 

• Influence without relying on direct authority, using credibility, clarity and judgement to drive outcomes. 

• Help shape the future operating model for the function in China as the organisation scales. 

What We’re Looking For 

Essential 

• Significant leadership experience in engineering, product development, technology development, verification, validation or a closely related technical function. 

• Proven ability to lead through influence in complex, global and matrixed organisations. 

• Strong track record of developing people, building capability and improving organisational effectiveness. 

• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the confidence to represent the function at senior levels. 

• Ability to balance global functional standards with local operating realities and practical delivery needs. 

• Strong judgement, ownership and resilience in ambiguous, fast-moving environments. 

Highly Desirable 

• Experience scaling engineering teams, sites or development capability. 

• Experience working across multiple product categories or technology programmes. 

• Strong understanding of product development, verification, validation and engineering governance. 

• Experience operating in or with China-based engineering, supplier or development teams.

• The China organisation has better visibility of capability, clearer development plans and stronger alignment of resources to priorities. 

• Key site enablers such as facilities, safety, security, IT and tooling have clear ownership, momentum and escalation paths. 

• Senior stakeholders see improved alignment, faster issue resolution and stronger representation of the function in China. 

• The role helps define how Technology Development & Verification should operate in China as the organisation grows.
