About the role
The Lead Electronics Engineer will be a senior technical leader within the NPD Hardware Electronics team, responsible for shaping and delivering robust electronics solutions for new and pioneering consumer appliance products within Dyson’s New Category portfolio. The role combines deep electronics expertise with strong technical leadership, cross-functional influence, and delivery accountability.
This role will be based in Shenzhen, China.
This role requires a highly capable and influential engineering leader who can provide technical direction, make sound engineering judgements, and guide teams through complex product development challenges. You will lead Electronics Engineers across development programmes, set clear technical expectations, support critical decision-making, and coach graduates and new team members to build capability within the team.
- Provide technical leadership to a team of Electronics Engineers, driving the development and delivery of integrated electronics solutions across both self-developed and JDM modules, in line with programme milestones and business priorities.
- Lead design reviews, technical risk assessments, and investigations, ensuring robust engineering decisions are made early and complex technical issues are resolved effectively.
- Own and guide the development of power electronics, analogue/digital, and microcontroller-based electronic circuits for new products, including circuit design, analysis, review, troubleshooting, verification, and validation.
- Set and uphold engineering standards to ensure design solutions meet product specifications and functional requirements, including performance, reliability, DFM, cost, and compliance with international regulatory standards such as IEC, UL, and EMC standards.
- Influence and align cross-functional teams, including Mechanical, Compliance, Software, Manufacturing, Test, and JDM partners, to ensure product and system requirements are understood, prioritised, and delivered through to production.
- Ensure the quality and completeness of key engineering deliverables, including design schematics, PCB layouts, tolerance analyses, design notes, FMEAs, failure analysis reports, and technical review documents.
- Provide technical leadership to suppliers and contract manufacturers, driving production readiness, engineering discipline, and compliance with Dyson requirements.
- Coach and develop junior engineers by providing technical guidance, design direction, and constructive challenge to strengthen engineering capability across the team.
- Represent the electronics function on-site as required, including co-location at JDM or supplier sites to support critical technical alignment, issue resolution, and delivery execution.
About you
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in electronics development, with proven technical leadership and strong design knowledge in key areas such as power electronics, motor drives, battery management, analogue electronics, high-speed design, digital electronics, and sensing technologies.
- Experience with embedded microcontroller-based platforms, such as 8-bit, 16-bit, and ARM Cortex microcontrollers.
- Experience in high-speed circuit design.
- Experience using simulation tools to support design calculations, tolerance analysis, and documentation
- Experience with standard electronics laboratory and test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, AC/DC power sources, power meters, etc.
- Working knowledge of schematic capture and PCB layout software such as Mentor Graphics
- Proven experience leading electronics development across multiple product development cycles, from concept through to production.
- Experience with DFM, DFX, and DFMEA methodologies.
- Knowledge of home appliance safety requirements and regulatory certification at PCBA and product levels
- Experience in EMC troubleshooting is essential
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to independently lead problem-solving, balance technical trade-offs, and deliver high-quality outcomes within challenging programme timelines.
- Highly self-motivated, accountable, and able to lead by example in a fast-paced, technically demanding environment.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence technical decisions and engage effectively with engineering, manufacturing, supplier, and leadership stakeholders.
- Experience leading JDM partners, especially within the home appliance industry, is strongly preferred.
