Dyson is a global technology company with a unique philosophy - to solve problems that others ignore, first. It transforms every category it enters with radical and iconic re-inventions that work, perform, and look vastly different.
Dyson is rapidly expanding; in its new and core categories, and across all its global markets. The next few years are going to be Dyson’s biggest and busiest yet. We are expanding in new markets with new products offering a fantastic experience for our users.
Dyson’s culture is unique; dynamic, inventive, technology-obsessed and decidedly un-corporate. The mindset is geared to constant change and Dyson’s pace brings constant challenge. It’s not easy or comfortable, but it’s this way of working that drives performance. Dyson suits people with the courage and resilience to find their own way, spotting opportunities where others don’t, and having the self-belief to persevere where others give up. “Good enough” isn’t good enough. Experiences are more important than experience. And attitude counts as much as aptitude.
Dyson SWHW Test & QA is accountable for assuring the quality and reliability of Dyson products across embedded hardware, embedded software, the Dyson mobile app and Dyson Cloud. As software, electronics and connected intelligence become increasingly central to every new Dyson product, Test & QA plays a critical role in shaping product readiness, technical risk management and customer experience. We are looking for a senior Lead SW/HW Test Engineer to provide technical leadership across software and hardware test activities, working closely with Dyson engineering teams and external JDM/ODM partners to drive quality, governance and delivery confidence from concept through production.
About the Role
- To support Dyson’s continued growth, we are expanding our strategic collaboration with third-party JDM/ODM partners, many of whom are based in China. In this senior role, you will provide technical leadership and governance across partner-led test activities throughout the full project lifecycle, from early engagement and risk assessment through validation, launch readiness and delivery. You will act as a senior technical authority for JDM/ODM test execution, ensuring partner capability, quality evidence and delivery performance are aligned with Dyson’s standards and with internal Test and QA teams across Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.
- Lead the assessment of project scope, technical complexity, system architecture and delivery risks to define robust, risk-based test strategies at project and programme level.
- Define and deploy advanced software, electronics and system-level test solutions that improve verification efficiency, technical coverage and confidence in product readiness.
- Own and lead comprehensive test strategies and plans across software, electronics and intelligent features, including AI/ML-related functionality. Provide direction on execution, automation and continuous test analysis to support nightly builds and evidence-based decision-making.
- Anticipate changes in project scope, technical architecture or delivery constraints, and adapt test strategies to maintain appropriate quality coverage and delivery confidence.
- Act as a technical thought leader when new technologies are introduced, such as IoT, machine learning, vision systems or connected features, by identifying unique validation needs and shaping appropriate test approaches.
- Lead the resolution of complex test-related technical issues, driving root-cause understanding, mitigation plans and sustainable improvements across Dyson and partner teams.
- Evaluate third-party suppliers’ and partners’ test strategies, engineering processes, software quality metrics and technical maturity, identifying gaps and driving improvement actions.
- Provide senior technical review of third-party software implementation, source code, electronic hardware design and test evidence to strengthen software and electronic hardware quality.
- Define and govern project quality metrics and dashboards, including defect trends, test coverage, code quality indicators, risk exposure and readiness criteria.
- Engage directly with third-party engineering leaders and QA leads to review test plans, evidence, results and metrics, ensuring alignment with Dyson standards and timely escalation of quality risks.
- Lead integration test planning to ensure third-party components, subsystems and software releases are validated effectively within complete Dyson product systems.
- Provide clear technical challenge, early risk escalation and evidence-based recommendations, holding suppliers accountable for agreed quality benchmarks and delivery commitments.
- Represent Test & QA in key project forums and technical reviews, influencing decisions throughout the development and test lifecycle to enable the delivery of high-quality software and electronic products.
About you
- Strong hands-on technical capability in at least one scripting or programming language, such as Python, C or C++, with the ability to guide technical discussions and assess implementation quality.
- Deep experience with robotics, sensors, vision systems, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AI or other connected-product technologies, ideally within complex consumer products or embedded systems.
- Advanced experience using test management and engineering collaboration tools such as Zephyr, Jira, Confluence, Stash, Git and Bamboo to manage visibility, traceability and delivery governance.
- Persistent, inquisitive and results-driven, with strong critical thinking, structured problem-solving and the confidence to challenge technical assumptions constructively.
- Strong strategic judgement, with the ability to design proportionate, risk-based test coverage across in-house, outsourced and supplied components while balancing quality, schedule and technical complexity.
- Extensive JDM/ODM experience, including more than four years leading partner test, quality governance, technical reviews and delivery assurance activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of embedded systems, IoT or real-time operating systems, including the interaction between embedded products, mobile applications and cloud-connected services.
- Experience operating in Agile software development or DevOps environments, with a strong understanding of continuous integration, release governance and iterative quality assurance.
- Excellent attention to detail, strong stakeholder communication and the ability to influence cross-functional and partner teams without direct authority.
- Strong understanding of software quality assurance practices, test architecture, automation approaches, quality metrics and engineering governance.
- Able to operate independently in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, prioritising effectively and driving high-quality outcomes with minimal direction.
- Fluent in English and Mandarin.
