• They operate as the primary point of contact between engineering and category teams for technical discussions concerning the product level.
Technical Leadership
• They assume ownership of product level functional requirements and non-functional attributes and constraints such as safety, regulatory compliance and reliability.
• They work closely with the project DM/PM to ensure the technical deliverables at each milestone are appropriately set and the delivery timelines are realistically laid out.
• With their extensive breadth and depth of technical expertise, they lead complex, product level trade-off discussions to enable the correct engineering solutions for the product across multiple functional teams. These will often require nuanced understanding of complex subjects to enable teams to converge in the presence of conflicting information.
• Mentors and coaches junior engineers and technical leaders.
Technical Governance
• They collaborate directly with peers within the project team who would be engineering managers, project managers or subject matter experts at Associate Principal/Principal grades to set out the development strategy for the project.
• They are accountable for the appropriate and complete ownership of systems, sub-systems and no ambiguities at interfaces amongst engineering teams.
• They directly report technical readiness of the project to RDD Directors at the Phase Reviews against milestone deliverables prescribed in the Product Creation Framework.
• They chair and lead project Technical Reviews after each design iteration spanning all engineering functions.
Technical Status/Progress Reporting
• They periodically review and report technical readiness of the project from the perspective of correctness and completeness of requirements/specifications and closure of technical risk and issues.
Platforming
• Wherever practicable, they ensure that engineering systems are developed to offer platforming opportunities for future products. They would lead category wide initiatives (such as technology platforming) that would unlock efficiencies and opportunities affecting the product development road-map across the category.
