About the role
Reporting to the Head of Demand Planning in Japan, the Demand Planning Manager will play a critical role as a strategic differentiator supporting Dyson’s growth and customer experience.
This role is expected to lead unbiased demand planning and ensure sales plan sufficiency to maximize company revenue at the lowest possible cost – driving overall inventory optimization.
The Demand Planning Manager will be responsible for developing robust demand forecasts, aligning cross‑functional teams, managing inventory and supply requirements, and supporting business decisions through actionable data and insights.
You will partner closely with commercial, supply chain, brand, and finance teams to ensure demand forecasts support business priorities across multiple categories and channels, delivering both product availability and operational efficiency.
Main Responsibilities
Ownership and Delivery of Demand Forecasts- Lead the end-to-end demand planning process, generating accurate short- and long-term forecasts for all Dyson categories and sales channels (direct, retail, digital, and B2B/B2C, if applicable).
- Collaborate closely with channel, sales, marketing, and supply chain teams to integrate commercial insights, campaign planning, NPD (New Product Development), promotions, and product lifecycle changes within demand plans.
- Regularly review and adjust forecasts based on sales trends, inventory levels, product launches, seasonality, and exit/phase-out plans.
Inventory and Supply Coordination
- Partner with supply chain, logistics, and warehouse teams to ensure optimal stock levels and inventory flow to meet forecasted demand.
- Proactively manage supply and inventory risks, flagging issues and recommending corrective actions to maintain availability and minimise excess/obsolescence.
- Support S&OP (Sales and Operations Planning) and IBP (Integrated Business Planning) processes with data, demand assumptions and business updates.
- Engage stakeholders across commercial, channel, marketing, and finance teams to ensure consensus in demand assumptions and plans.
- Act as key liaison for demand outlook communication—providing transparent updates on forecast changes, risks, and opportunities to leadership and relevant functions.
- Coordinate demand review meetings and supply consensus forums as required.
- Monitor performance metrics (forecast accuracy, bias, inventory metrics) on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis; communicate learnings and drive corrective actions as required.
- Use data analysis and modelling to support demand-supply trade-off decisions and scenario planning.
- Support continuous improvement of demand planning processes and systems, driving best practice adoption and process standardisation.
- Provide coaching and support to junior demand planning/analyst team members as required.
- Demonstrate leadership within the demand planning team, fostering a culture of data-driven decision making, agility, and cross-functional partnership.
About you
- Experience:
- More than 5 years of solid experience in demand planning, supply planning, S&OP, or sales planning roles—preferably within omni-channel retail environments (e-commerce, physical retail, marketplaces).
- Proven track record in delivering accurate demand forecasts across multiple product categories.
- Experience working cross-functionally with commercial, marketing, supply chain, operations, and finance teams.
- Strong understanding of retail market dynamics, supply chain processes, and inventory management best practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Sales, Business, Finance, Supply Chain, or a related field.
- Advanced analytical capability with strong data interpretation skills; able to extract actionable insights from complex datasets.
- Skilled in forecast modeling, scenario analysis, and trend identification.
- Ability to interpret financial and sales data to influence decision-making and business outcomes.
- Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
- Proficiency in planning systems such as SAP/APO, Oracle, Anaplan, or equivalent.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication in Japanese (native or business level) and English (business level).
