About us

Research, Design and Development (RDD) is Dyson's engine room. It's where our engineers challenge convention, build, test, fail, refine, and then fail again – all to invent technology that solves problems others ignore. You will be part of a global team delivering groundbreaking projects that create trailblazing Dyson technologies for the world.

Based in our RDD Centre at Senai, our engineers play a key role in bringing proprietary Dyson technology to market. As part of a global project team, you'll work with specialists in Materials, Process, Chemical, Thermals, Fluid Dynamics, Structural Analysis, Software, Control, and Electrical & Electronics Engineering. This team designs and develops new product features and technology with our strategic partners – exploring the limits of technology and optimizing solutions, all within a Dyson-owned Development Centre.

About the role

This role leads key technical workstreams related to battery cell development, from defining requirements and selecting suitable cell technologies to owning comprehensive testing, validation, and issue resolution. It collaborates closely with cross‑functional teams and external partners to deliver high‑quality battery solutions, supports prototyping and production improvements, solves complex technical problems independently, mentors junior engineers, and contributes to the strategic direction and innovation roadmap for future battery technologies.

  • Lead key technical workstreams for battery cell development and integration.
  • Define and document battery requirements, specs, and compliance needs.
  • Drive battery cell evaluation, selection, and characterization.
  • Own testing programs for performance, reliability, thermal behaviour, and safety.
  • Manage in‑house and external testing to meet standards and internal requirements.
  • Support prototyping and validation of cells and pack assemblies.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and suppliers on battery technology decisions.
  • Provide production support, troubleshoot issues, and drive quality, reliability, and cost improvements.
  • Solve complex technical problems and conduct root‑cause analyses.
  • Mentor junior engineers and review their technical work.
  • Communicate battery insights clearly to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Contribute to innovation, proposing new chemistries and architectures.
  • Operate with autonomy and accountability for high‑quality technical delivery.

About you

  • A bachelor’s degree and above in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science, with a strong emphasis on electrochemistry and battery systems.

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in battery cells or battery packs.

  • Deep expertise in battery chemistry (e.g., Li-ion), cell characterization, and relevant safety standards (e.g., UN 38.3, IEC 62133).

  • Knowledge in the following areas are advantageous: pack design and assembly, thermal management, BMS concepts, CAE (thermal FEA, electrochemical modelling), Modelling (Matlab/Python), CAD, and Failure Analysis as applied to batteries.

  • A passion for problem-solving and a drive to invent.
