Dyson landed in the US in 2002 and within 24 months our technology was market share leader. Our bustling HQ is based in the historic Montgomery Ward building, overlooking the Chicago River. Just west of the city in Aurora, IL, our dedicated US Customer Care team now numbers 160 people. And in total, there are over 660 Dyson people working across the US in multiple functions.
But Dyson US is still growing. It’s poised to double its footprint and take on new categories. Already a target for our competitors, challenging times are ahead. And our battle–hungry US team is truly fired up.
Like Dyson, Aurora is no stranger to engineering heritage. It got its name, and nickname as the ’City of Lights’, from being the first city in the country to have all electric streetlights. It houses the SciTech Interactive Science Museum and is home to one of the only S.T.E.M.–based curriculum preschools and kindergartens in the country.
Dyson opened its $1.5 million US customer care center in 2012. Open plan and acoustically engineered, the 14,000 sq. ft. building provides architectural ’ribbons’ in the ceiling to guide employees to ’build bars’ – areas to take machines apart for more accurate advice to customers.
With 160 Dyson experts handling 30,000 support queries a day, Aurora serves customers via telephone, email, social media and online chat. And with the number of US Dyson owners set to keep growing, so the facility has been designed to expand.
Off the clock, the team in Aurora knows how to kick back with regular events to take advantage of all the city has to offer – from sports in the park, to museums, theaters, art centers and riverfront attractions with great shopping and eateries. Around Thanksgiving, the team has an annual goods drive. And December means it’s time to prepare costumes for the annual holiday party. Always eagerly anticipated.
