In 2000, Dyson moved production from Malmesbury to Malaysia to be closer to our supply chains and open up international growth. The small team of 10 has now grown to more than 1,000 – Dyson’s second largest office. Located in the industrial heart of Johor, it’s also home to RDD, IT, Operations, Finance, Creative and HR.
The RDD facility is central to Dyson’s plans to launch 100 new machines in the next four years. To meet these ambitions, we recently expanded the site to 30,000m², with 50 advanced technology labs and 700 new engineers. So in the Dyson world, there really is no more exciting place to be.
Dyson Malaysia is located in Senai, a town that’s developing into one of the major logistics hubs of Kulaijaya District – a flagship zone of the Iskandar Malaysia. And with three buildings, Dyson is one of the largest companies present. Nearby there’s shopping, restaurants and the expressway to the Johor Premium Outlet – Johor’s best shopping – around 6 km away.
Open plan workspaces, lofty ceilings, and huge displays of machines and artwork create an inspiring backdrop for work. But Dyson people also like to play, with regular events like sports days, fundraising activities, and the annual futsal tournament – the most anticipated sports fixture on the calendar. Every year, teams also take part in Challenge Dyson – a global engineering event that tests skills at building machines out of scraps, then racing them. Competition with the Malmesbury HQ is always intense.
Other social highlights include the annual Family Day and Year End Party, where Dyson people design their own themed costumes. And every now and then, we run charity events such as blood donations to support the local hospital.
