About us

We are looking for an Accountant to provide GL and tax compliance assistance to the China Finance & Control team. This role requires interaction with individuals at all levels within our China market, local tax bureau in different cities etc., to provide sufficient statutory reporting and tax compliance service to business team. And this role offers a unique opportunity to take on responsibilities in both day to day operations as well setting up new processes, entities and support business expansion.

About the role

We are looking to expand aggressively to increase our footprint, both from a geographical and product range perspective. This person will need to develop a good understanding of retail business and upcoming plans in order to identify their impact, provide sound advice and drive the changes through business where required. The individual needs to be confident in engaging retail business team, managing tax bureau relationships, effectively decode complex compliance and tax law and regulations in China and driving actions through to completion to avoid compliance & tax risks.


The individual will report to the Head of Finance and control based in Shanghai, with the following responsibilities:


  • To support and manage the preparation of statutory P&L and balance sheet, financial and statistical reports, financial audits and tax returns as required by law

  • To ensure that all financial statements and reports are in accordance with the rules and regulations of PRC government/tax bureau are prepared accurately and timely

  • To initiate modifications/ enhancements to computerized systems for accounting and management data as well as recommend necessary department controls

  • To coordinate statutory audit to ensure statutory reporting timeliness and accuracy.

  • To coordinate internal audit, continuously optimize appropriate internal control, and ensure compliance of all internal policies and relevant regulations.

  • To manage daily tax compliance tasks for responsible legal entities according to the tax regulation and company policy with professional technical competency independently

  • To review and monitor relevant tax filings and tax applications prepared by tax consultant and coordinate on the communication among tax consultant, Month-end hub, Accenture accounting team and each retail stores located in different remote sites in China to ensure accurate and timely submission as required by tax regulation and tax authority

  • To perform efficient and effective communication with tax authorities and maintain transparent and trusting relationship with tax authorities and related government authorities

  • To coordinate with Treasury Accountant to ensure tax payment and tax refund to be processed and settled within required timeline of responsible entities

  • To provide tax data input to tax accounting posting and reporting (including VAT account reconciliation) of responsible entities and subsequent monitoring

  • To sort out various VAT/IIT/EIT vouchers (including but not limited to import and domestic purchases).

  • To archive original tax documents and vouchers according to the tax regulation and internal policy guideline.

  • To manage specific inquiry, inspection and audit in relation to deduction of tax vouchers initiated by tax authority

  • To provide tailor made tax advice and value-adding guidance to retail operational team within specific timeline with close and good collaboration.

  • To assist in establishing, optimizing and developing operational processes to drive efficiency and excellence on timely basis in line with business needs or exploring and analyzing specific new tax regulation reform

  • To support quarterly/annual tax provision calculations, validate tax balance sheet accounts and implement new accounting standards under IFRS and/or local GAAP

  • To contribute and provide high-quality and timely support to various projects

  • To be in charge of any ad-hoc assignments.

About you

  • Degree / Diploma in Accounting, tax, finance or equivalent.

  • At least 3-5 years’ of solid GL & tax experience.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage priorities to complete tasks within deadlines

  • Ability to multi-task and plan effectively when working with a variety of project teams in an often high-pressure, competitive environment in an organized manner.

  • Team player, willing to be flexible in tasks and activities taken on

  • Highly self-motivated, self-starter, confident, detailed oriented, excellence

  • Proficient in Office software, such as Excel, Word and PPT etc.

  • Good oral and written English.
