There is a requirement for an Advanced Electrical Systems Engineer to join the solid state batteries engineering team to develop the electrical/power/control aspects of both research tools and production equipment. This is a role requiring a high level of technical understanding, and an ability to work collaboratively with others to make pragmatic engineering decisions. The role sits within the engineering team which is collectively responsible for delivering robustly designed cells, that are manufactured reliably, efficiently and safely to ensure the success of Energy Storage at Dyson.


<• Development of electronic research tools (data acquisition and logging, control, automation)  o Generation of designs specifications from stakeholder requirements o Selection of appropriate hardware and tools o Manufacture of bespoke systems ranging from hand-soldered circuitry to low-volume PCBs o Detailing of parts and drawings for communication with support teams and external partners o Presentation of design decisions, prototypes and test results to team and senior management  • Development of power/control/automation systems for production equipment o Contribute to the design of pilot and production equipment o Working with site contractors and equipment suppliers to maintain on-site equipment o Consulting with engineering team to develop new and novel production equipment, which may involve the use of high voltage/current DC, AC and RF power  • Safety o Responsibility for system and process compliance with internal and external safety standards o Contribution to a safe working environment through FMEA input and formal risk assessment • Collaboration and teamwork o Establish highly collaborative relationships with all teams that interact with the mechanical engineering team


Essential:  • BEng/MEng degree in Electronic Engineering, or other relevant discipline, or a demonstrable level of industrial experience in a relevant industry. • 3-5 years’ experience in an engineering/research environment • Prototyping and building electronic systems, ranging from one-off bespoke to large scale industrial • Industrial control and automation o Experience with mains single phase and 3 phase supplies for industrial applications o Design and commissioning of power distribution equipment o Selection, implementation and control of industrial actuators • Digital and analogue hardware design:  o General knowledge of microcontrollers. o Knowledge of a wide range of serial interfaces. o FPGA design. o Experience of analogue amplification and signal conditioning circuitry • Software: o Use of LabView, Matlab or Python for data acquisition, analysis and automation of rigs. o Experience of C/C++ programming for embedded systems. o Digital signal processing experience.  • Design Tools o Schematic capture using Altium Designer, Mentor Graphics or other main stream tools.  o Use of SPICE based simulation tools such as Simetrix and LTspice.  • Excellent organisation skills, with the ability to effectively manage own time and that of a small team • Ability to deal with dynamic environment where specifications may change frequently • Highly motivated and driven with confidence to influence senior leaders • A team player who builds strong relationships and has an appreciation of cultural diversity  Desirable:  • Prior experience in battery, photovoltaic/solar, semiconductor or electronics industries • Prior experience of Project lifecycle management tools (E.g. Team Center) to store design information • Robust design including FMEA techniques.  • Use of Git for software version control.  • Design calculation tools such as Mathcad and Microsoft Excel.  • Atlassian tools, including Jira, Confluence and Bitbucket
