Business Development Manager, Portugal

The primary focus of the Business Development Manager is to build a long-term development plan for Portugal. He/She will have to assess the country profile, risks and opportunities, to develop a sales and distribution strategy that will grow Dyson’s business in Portugal.  He/She will be required to engage with Marketing, Retail, Direct Sales and other business functions to develop and execute the plan and activities for Portugal.


1.     Develop a Business Plan for Portugal

  • Determine and assess risks & opportunities to grow Dyson’s business in Portugal
  • Identify the right distribution channels/retailers for Dyson machines. Develop relationships with retailers and negotiate distribution and strong representation in retailer’s stores & website.
  • Develop an annual business plan that sets out the key strategic aims for Dyson and retailers; finding new owners for Dyson machines.
  • Engage with internal/external stakeholders to implement the business plan and lead the Market project
  • Find new opportunities to increase brand awareness/loyalty
  • Represent the Dyson brand and philosophy to retailers
  • Challenge the retailers in the Portuguese market to push the innovative and modern aspects of Dyson Technology

2.     Deliver sales and profit targets

  • Agree, update, communicate and administer all areas of the promotional activity planning cycle
  • Manage a promotion budget in line with forecasts and promotional activity
  • Deliver forecasts that account for; sales trends, promotions, seasonality, distribution changes, new product launches and product exits
  • Manage and regularly monitor the product mix to ensure profit targets are met
  • Understand retailer profitability through the regular use of a margin tracker

3. Achieve high standards for the Dyson brand in all sectors

  • Work closely with Marketing to raise brand awareness in Portugal
  • Maximise shopper and consumer understanding through country management
  • Communicate activity to Retail Sales team regularly
  • Engage with Field team regularly
  • Regularly monitor and interpret sales data to improve compliance, performance and in store standards

4. Deliver compelling, well thought through and inspiring presentations to the retailer

  • Build the Joint Business Plan of the customers and align each department through it (sales, marketing, supply chain and operations, and finance).
  • Hold regular face to face meetings with the retailers
  • Organise and deliver regular Business Reviews between senior personnel at Dyson and the retailer
  • Work with internal departments to drive through agreed customer initiatives

5. Manage annual terms Negotiations

  • Align the organisation to your country and negation objectives
  • Work to achieve targeted terms and conditions with retailers
  • Communicate and deliver against an agreed timetable

6. Fulfil other duties as required

  • Pick up new activities that fall broadly in the purpose of the role
  • Identify problems and find solutions
  • Lead through example and demonstrate leadership in all team meetings
  • Coach and motivate less experienced colleagues and field representatives.


·  Working knowledge of the Retail industry
