Commercial Controller Germany is partnering with other functions outside of finance, almost like a consultant does. Aim will be to support and challenge the German Category team, ensuring the team makes the right business decisions. He/She will support range planning process ensuring adherence to deadlines and appropriate financial analysis in relation to volume, price & mix impacts. He/She will support Marketing investment planning by exchanging with Category teams and Market Controllers.


Business Partnering
  • Support and advice the Category Director and category team in business decisions
  • Build interface between Category teams and Controllers to ensure all relevant information is reflected in business decisions and plans
  • Category positioning: Ensure positioning remains clear, differentiated, and relevant so as to provide ongoing competitive advantage  
  • Category strategy: Business Partner to define key marketing and communication objectives for the category and assess which elements of the Marketing Mix need to be used / changed to meet the objectives 
  • Work with marketing and sales team to develop a robust marketing plan for current & coming year
  • Ensure all Marketing activities achieve adequate ROI and “gold standard KPIs”
  • Work with Category Director to ensure the marketing and sales team are up to date with competitor activity, trends, and ever changing consumer habits and attitudes

Range Planning
  • Ensure suitable tracking is in place to understand portfolio performance at a category and SKU - level, understanding growth products and drivers and also vulnerable products and driver; taking action as required
  • Analyze, understand and influence Range plans in relation to volume, price & mix impacts  
  • Ensure strategic involvement into New Product Launch planning by providing financial analysis & building interfaces to Market Controllers
  • Review wider trends and wider market changes in adjacent categories through field visits to better understand and influence direction

  • In order to really know what drives the category, the Commercial Controller defines ways to measure and report on the key indicators of it
  • Coordinate and prepare Category Scorecards


  • University Degree in Finance / Accounting or comparable
  • About 3 years’ experience of working in a high performing sales organization
  • Commercial Finance experience
  • Evidence of budget control and can demonstrate financial expertise
  • Working knowledge of the retail industry, either with an electrical manufacturer or other
  • Strategic planning capability
  • Methodical business planning capability
  • High level of communication skills -  both verbal and written
  • Influencing skills 
  • Excellent personal and business presentation skills
