Description

We’re looking for an incredible Senior User Experience (UX) designer to join our Human Machine Interface (HMI) team. We’re looking in particular for a UX designer who has worked developing platforms being used by multiple users – or multiple other systems – at the same time.
The Human Machine Interface team has a confusing name but a simple mission. Our team makes Dyson products easier for our users to interact with. The team works across all of Dyson’s products ensuring that user experiences are simple, intuitive and delightful.
As one of the designers on the team you’ll be working with other designers to create the user experience of our products. As a senior you’ll take a leading role in ensuring we take a user-centered design approach based around talking to users and working with user data. You’ll also be challenged to use your design intuition to make novel decisions and craft beautiful experiences that haven’t previously been produced.

Accountabilities

  • You will collaboratively design the experience, behaviours, control and feedback mechanisms for our products taking an empathetic user-centred approach to problem solving.
  • You will be designing new standards, protocols and principles. You will be designing products that will be first to market with no existing competitors or established patterns.
  • You will run workshops, ideation sessions, and use other discovery tools to generate and develop designs.
  • You will generate ideas that are both product enhancing and innovative. No gimmicks.
  • With the rest of the Design and Product Experience teams you’ll create a seamless product experience.
  • Through prototyping and demonstration, you will bring your ideas and designs to life through storyboarding, sketching, illustration, interactive demos and physical prototype rigs.
  • You will work closely with our hardware and software developers to create high fidelity prototypes to ensure product behaviours are clearly understood.
  • You will be an advocate for accessibility
  • You will conduct user trial options when needed to make a decision or validate a design. You’ll be able to utilise Dyson hubs in Chicago, Tokyo, Shanghai and Singapore to test concepts and gain new insights.
  • Your role will be to make abstract thoughts concrete and communicate them in many different formats from working prototypes to user stories and everything in between.
  • You will be presenting designs to senior stakeholders including James Dyson and Jake Dyson.
  • Aside from the day job, you’ll often have opportunities to represent Dyson engineering in press, conferences and at new product launches. The exposure you will witness of the broader team’s involvement in a given product’s development means you will be well placed to support such events if of interest.
