Design Engineer – Floorcare, Mainbody & Accessories

We’re looking for a Design Engineer to join our NPD Mainbody & Accessories team within the floorcare category. You will be expected to take a hands-on approach, building prototype rigs in the workshops & testing them to help inform design decisions. You'll have the opportunity to work on areas such as; user interaction, acoustics, thermals & structure. 
The roleYou’ll be part of a multi-discipline team working on mechanical design, product behaviours, airflow delivery, harness integration, motors, drive systems and energy storage. We strive to solve problems for people globally and design for a diverse range of user needs and home environments. We design and build prototypes to demonstrate new technology, intuitive features and performance gains. Our approach enables us to trial and review designs quickly to deliver authentic and better products.

  • Identify, prioritise and manage risk to deliver on time, cost and spec.
  • Integration of cutting edge technologies through connected products working with hardware, software and sensing systems. 
  • Develop innovative user focused products by collaborating with Research and NPI right through to delivering manufacturing solutions with the Malaysian Development Centre. 
  • Help make informed decisions by interpreting complex data to drive direction. 
  • Communicate with key departments and within floorcare.


  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering / Product Design or equivalent.
  • Experience designing parts and assemblies for mass manufacture eg injection moulding. 
  • Practical knowledge of 3D CAD, PLM systems and analysis packages. 
  • A sound understanding of mechanical principles. 
  • Enjoy a hands on approach to building and testing prototypes. 
  • Analysis and evaluation of test results to drive design direction. 
  • Ability to plan ahead, prioritise tasks and coordinate your work
  • Excellent communication, problem solving and analytical skill. 
  • Show suitable verification and validation to prove your design. 
  • Identification and managing of requirements and specifications throughout the design process.
  • Knowledge and application of a systems engineering approach to design.
