Employee Relations Advisor (12 month FTC)

The ER Advisor is a newly created position deigned to create a positive employee relations culture that enables line managers to make the right decisions, and has, at its heart, a fair consistent approach. It is a critical role, where you will need to be highly pragmatic, commercially aware, an expert in your field, with the ability to build great relationships across the GB market. It will have lots of variety: build your skills and knowledge of a thriving technology business, and a great place to be part of a growing ER function. 
You will either be an accomplished HR Advisor that thrives in the ER specialism or an ER Specialist that enjoys combining a legal framework, policies and procedures with a commercial edge. You have the benefit of being part of an experienced HR team, supported by in house legal employment law experts to drive excellence and standards across the critical areas of employee relations.


  • Providing pragmatic advice, guidance and support on disciplinary, grievance and absence cases to line managers across Customer Services and Retail
  • Building an understanding of the commercial business to support decisions and minimise legal and business risk
  • Working with investigatory managers in the preparation of comprehensive investigation reports, including recommendations for complaint resolution
  • Developing great relationships with line managers across all levels in order to promote good employee relations across the organisation, creating an environment of trust and credibility
  • Working closely with the in-house legal team to refer complex cases and ensure legal compliance. Keep up to date with trends outside of the business, legal case work and changes in employment law to ensure a best practice approach, and share these insights with the HR team
  • Working with the local HR team to build line manager capability through bite size training in employee relations activity e.g. conducting investigations, holding formal meetings etc
  • Identify and make recommendations for improvements in processes, policies and practices as appropriate
  • Assisting the team to identify any potential trends and themes (in relation to both the nature of issues being raised as well as the business areas from which those issues have arisen) and implementing support to the business area/team to remedy those
  • Assisting in the preparation of cases for tribunal claims including, in particular, the collation and creation of relevant document bundles for use by internal and external legal advisers


  • You will have demonstrable experience of leading and handling challenging ER cases 
  • You will have excellent working knowledge of employment law, and operational HR practice
  • You will have excellent communication skills, able to work effectively within a team. Coupled with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to persuade influence and, when appropriate, challenge with tact and diplomacy
  • A self-starter who sees things through to completion, with an eye for detail and accuracy
  • Pragmatic, quick thinking and logical with a positive ‘can do’ attitude
