Description

Master data management (MDM) is essential to the effective running of our business. Master data is a single source of basic business data used across multiple systems, applications, and/or processes. When master data is accurate, on time and complete it saves both time and money and facilitates better-informed business decisions. High quality master data is a real asset to our business.
Master Data is created, maintained and retired in multiple Dyson systems for all business areas and markets globally. Dyson’s primary ERP system is SAP, encompassing both front and back office solutions. The business deploys other complimentary systems, which also require high quality master data for their effective operation.
To ensure appropriate levels of control, Dyson manages its master data asset centrally. Policy governance and strategy is owned and driven by the Dyson MDM leadership team based Malmesbury, United Kingdom. A third party outsourcing vendor based in an offshore location operates processes to ensure Dyson’s master data is accurate, relevant, available on a timely basis and appropriately safeguarded to allow the business to carry out core transactions.
Outsourced activities are divided into two main work-streams, business-as-usual operations and project delivery, relating to inbound change and process improvement. Dyson MDM leadership and its outsourcing partner will work together to ensure a high level of master data integrity for Dyson through appropriately governed, efficient, user-friendly processes.

Accountabilities

You will be a global specialist in the nature and operation of MDM processes and also the function of master data in the ERP system. You will understand how master data flows across different business systems and have a rudimentary appreciation of related, core business transactions. This will require both an inquisitive mind-set and the ability to build a strong network cross-functionally and geographically. You will build up your knowledge of business requirements, how the data is used and the impact of poor quality data on the business operation. You will document your learnings for internal departmental use and also for the purpose of educating the business on how to use MDM processes effectively.
You will support the GMDM leadership team to ensure that MDM processes are continually developed to meet changing business requirements, improve operational efficiency and safeguard data integrity and quality. You will use your specialist knowledge to design new processes and modify existing ones. You will co-ordinate projects to implement the new and revised processes, and be responsible for ensuring that the supporting, Dyson-facing documentation is created and published.
You will partner with the third party MDM service provider, providing support where appropriate. You will place particular emphasis on ensuring that operational issues across the global business are effectively remedied by the MDM provider. As Dyson systems and MDM processes evolve, you will be responsible for updating and training the MDM service provider in new ways of working. You will also participate in design, testing and change management activities to facilitate the effective implementation of MDM process automation and robotisation projects.
You will provide guidance and support to Dyson MDM requesters and other key stakeholders globally. You will be responsible for training new requesters so that they are competent in using MDM processes. You will also share knowledge to help your internal partners better understand master data and master data processes. You will be comfortable in directing Dyson people at all levels towards self-service solutions for submitting MDM requests and viewing master data reports, where appropriate.
You will champion the use of well-governed MDM processes to facilitate the provision of high quality master data. In relation to this you will undertake activities to define, measure and analyse data quality. Using the insights gained by these activities, you will identify opportunities to improve data quality and then co-ordinate projects with the business to realise these.
