Description

The Head of Controlling leads the entire controlling team, overseeing all activities and ensuring smooth execution of functions. The Head of Controlling plays an important role in the business and is a natural leader who motivates, manages, and controls the controlling team for the purpose of developing efficiency with a view of optimizing the business’s profitability. He is a key business partner to all functions in Germany (e.g. Sales, Category, SOP, HR, especially the Management team) and ensures that all financial activities, records, and reports in the business accurately represent the business’s financial state of affairs.

Accountabilities

Leading and developing the Controlling Team
  • Leads and develop a team of 6 individuals, consisting of 3 controllers and 3 specialists / part time students  
  • Ensures that all members of the control department have clearly defined roles and accountabilities and that personal development plans are in place to enable smooth achievement of departmental goals
  • Fosters the business partnering mind set within the team by acting as a role model / being strongly connected to all departments
  • Creates a favourable departmental climate by adopting communication and integration processes, motivational practices, fair treatment, and excellent interpersonal relations with control personnel.

Plays an instrumental role in the delivery of financial performance
  • Plays a key role in the preparation of budgets and monthly rolling financial forecast (LE) including the full P&L (Gross Sales to Trading Profit) 
  • Leads the development and maintenance of financial models for the short and mid-term including the range / portfolio planning – works with the local and EU commercial teams to ensure the plans meet financial goals
  • Challenges and supports the sales and category teams to establish a ROI culture and to ensure profitable growth across the channels. Collaborates with the BI team to ensure that right measures for categories and sales team are tracked
  • Works closely with FCoE (Finance Centre of Excellence) in UK and the shared service center in Prague (Accenture) to deliver month-end and year-end procedures in compliance with accounting both internal and external policies
  • Ensure cost control systems and discipline is in place across all cost buckets (trade spend, marketing spend, overhead costs, logistics costs)

Leads and contributes to initiatives to improve organizational effectiveness
  • Collaborate internally and externally with key stakeholders to improve back-office processes  
  • Proactively contributes to improving the financial literacy of the broader German organization by providing trainings and induction session

Acts as the right hand and deputy for the German Finance Director 
  • Represent the finance function in the absence of the Finance Director in German management team
  • Liaise with external auditors in supporting and coordinating various audit processes and ensuring that there is timely implementation of any audit recommendations

Skills

  • University Degree
  • Min 5 years experience of working in a high performing matrix organization
  • Commercial Finance experience
  • First people management experience
  • Evidence of budget control and can demonstrate financial expertise
  • Working knowledge of the retail industry, either with an electrical manufacturer or other
  • Strategic planning capability
  • Methodical business planning capability
  • High level of communication skills in German and English -  both verbal and written
  • Strong team player - capable of building and motivating teams
  • Self-starter who sees things to completion
