Description

The aim of the Head of Research Singapore (HRS) role is to support and drive the creation of a world class Research capability for Dyson in Singapore in the areas of Machine Learning, Robotics, Personal Care Research (various sub category technology areas) and Technology Scouting. Once built, the successful candidate will need to then lead the team towards the discovery and deep scientific understanding of patentable new technologies in each of these areas with the implicit aim of integrating these technologies into future Dyson products.

The role will need to build both internal capability within Dyson at the STC and external capability with a network of Universities, Government Research agencies as well as start-ups and SME’s. The successful candidate will need to be extremely comfortable in working in a matrix environment/ structure and will need to work collaboratively with the various Research Heads-of and Directors globally. The role will report directly to the Chief Research Officer and will have a ‘dotted’ reporting line responsibility for the Singaporean Research teams. As the role evolves, The HRS may have the opportunity to build their own hard reporting-line Research teams in Singapore in new-to-Dyson areas.

The HRS will need to have a strong Scientific or Engineering background and will need to feel comfortable in the early TRL Research environment. The HRS will need to be very well connected with the RDD&Ops Leadership Teams as well as the Research, NPI, NPD and Global Engineering Leadership teams and should be able to work collaboratively and influence successfully at these levels. The role will require relatively frequent travel to the UK to keep connected with the UK Research Team and there may be some further international travel required at times. An ideal candidate would be an highly energetic, driven and motivated leader who enjoys working at the forefront of technology whilst also being sensitive to the ambiguity around early TRL Research as well as being sensitive to a matrix organization structure.
