Description

This role will be responsible for providing competent EHS advice, support and assistance to Dyson’s contract manufacturing operation and supporting sites. The role will support the business in the prevention of foreseeable harm, optimal people performance and well-being, reducing our impact on our Environment and the avoidance of significant business disruption or other operational loss with our business partners. This will include planning, establishing, directing and implementing a recognised EHS management system and assurance programme to ensure regulatory compliance, measure the effectiveness existing practice and assure correction of deficiencies.

Accountabilities

  • Be the subject matter expert and primary point of contact, for all operational EHS management enquiries, advice, support, training, coaching and incidents. This will be enhanced through frequent and effective engagement, communication and partnership with the strategic suppliers and vendors site management teams. Key EHS topics of this role will cover (but will not be limited) to: Manage and administer the Health & Safety assurance programme for the contract manufacturers and suppliers 
  • Lead on resolution of actions/issues and work collaboratively to close on the assurance programme corrective action plan and to raise the safety awareness of Dyson’s vendors 
  • Ensure that appropriate process safety related assessments are carried out (e.g. Specific Operations Risk Assessment, SORAs) to ensure that risks associated with safety system by passes/defects, defective Safety Critical Elements (SCE’s), overdue SCE inspections are appropriately assessed and managed consistent with the design intent and that appropriate interim measures are in place 
  • Create, manage and maintain a factory EHS Management System to ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015. Manage internal and external EHS audits and programs in relation to these standards and other interested parties (e.g. CSER, Internal Audit, Insurance, Regulators). Develop action plans to resolve findings, and implement countermeasures promptly and effectively 
  • Contribute to and utilise Global EHS Process and systems such as the Global incident reporting system and the Global legal compliance tool 
  • Partner with the Global Head of Fire Safety to ensure a robust approach to fire life safety is adopted throughout the programme and sites 
  • Support through collaborating, the capital project process to ensure that EHS matters are identified and considered at an early stage in the project. Ensuring operational EHS requirements are in place for all workplace projects, in particular supporting Dyson with its Design for Safety obligations 
  • Establish a location EHS committee structure to champion worker engagement initiatives. 
  • Monitor all related EHS incidents. Provide assistance and support to managers and where necessary personally investigate serious EHS incidents to identify underlying causes; recording findings and recommendations 
  • Assist factory and regional leadership in assessing EHS related business risks and establishing annual targets for the region. Analyse performance, set strategies, and lead development and implementation of action plans for year over year improvement 
  • Plan, develop and implement EHS management strategy, programs, policies and procedures that ensures full compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Ensures that standard work exists for the management, preparation, and submission of EHS reports in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and customer requirements 
  • Lead facility EHS review process to help management detect accident/health hazards and determine corrective or preventative measures and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented and are producing the desired results
  • Provide leadership in the investigation of serious accidents and injuries and ensure that local resources fully cooperate in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigation
  • Compile and submit KPIs & metrics on EHS events and provides updates on the progress towards EHS targets, on site EHS and facility activities, and any agency/regulatory inspections/violations. Includes collaborating, with the Regional EHS Manager in assessing EHS related business risks and establishing annual EHS targets for the location. Analyse performance, sets strategies, and leads development and implementation of action plans for year over year improvement
  • Ensure that EHS and Facility Team remain up-to-date and conversant with relevant laws, regulations and other statutory requirements that affect EHS across their local areas of responsibility 

Skills

  • Degree holder with at least 10 years’ experience working in a manufacturing or process plant 
  • Registered Safety and Health Officer 
  • Chartered membership of the Institution of Occupational Health and Safety (CMIOSH) – (High Desirable)
  • Management of Supplier and Contract Manufacturer Assurance programme (High Desirable) 
  • Manufacturing EHS Applied Ergonomics (High Desirable)
  • Experience of implementing ISO 14001:2015 & 45001:2018 (Highly Desirable) 
  • Proven ability to mitigate unforeseen problems creatively and effectively 
  • Understanding of H&S legal frameworks, and have the ability and resourcefulness to determine the practical application of the requirements
  • Demonstrable experience of working in partnership with the local regulatory and Industry EHS Groups
