Our New Product Innovation team relies on the development of key technologies for new innovative products, after which the New Product Development team carries them through to manufacturing; Dyson Research not only delivers the birth of new technologies but also supports those technologies through to their realisation and integration within a product.

Accountabilities

You will be expected to drive your team within product development from a fluid dynamic and thermodynamic perspective, whilst also considering all aspects of the technology, utilising your project management and people management skills. This integrated multidisciplinary approach to product development fosters a vibrant learning environment and provides a unique opportunity to develop as an engineering leader. You will: 
  • Scope, initiate and deliver product focused aerodynamic technology projects to the Dyson range plan by empowering your technical team (3-5 people) 
  • With the support of Project Managers, coordinate complex technical projects requiring multidisciplinary and multiphysics approach 
  • Analyse results, summarise findings and communicate these to other members of Research including Senior Managers and Directors 
  • Liaise with development teams to ensure effective transfer of technology into future product range 
  • Identify potential research areas which would benefit from new technology development. 
  • Present concepts to Senior Management (including James Dyson) when required 
  • Responsible for leadership of the team, ensuring deliverables are met to a high standard and that the team and individuals capability are aligned to business requirements 
  • Liaise with other stakeholders within Dyson to deliver products in line with the roadmap and strategy 
  • Be hands-on within your team to enable them to successfully deliver in line with the agreed roadmap 
  • Day to day line management of your team; driving a highly effective team through coaching, mentoring and training 
  • Own and drive projects across the teams at Dyson 
  • Provide input into the generation of the Environmental Control roadmap and strategy

Skills

  • The ability to provide technical support and direction to project teams 
  • Good analytical ability and attention to detail including an affinity for numbers 
  • Working knowledge of CFD and aerodynamic experimental techniques required, basic experience with acoustics is desirable but not necessary 
  • Good interpersonal communication, leadership and team working skills, to work in close collaboration with and influence project development teams 
  • Ability to communicate appropriate, concise and accurate information in written and verbal format to Senior Management and the team you’re managing 
  • Inquisitive and challenging nature - be prepared to constructively challenge others in order to fully understand an issue or situation. Not accepting assumptions at face value. Willing to challenge the status quo in order to realise benefits 
  • To be able to multi-task and plan effectively when working with a variety of project teams
