Materials Engineer - Metallurgist

As part of the materials team, you will lead activities related to the development of the latest light weighting material technologies in topics related to steels and aluminum alloys technology.


Responsible for developing material specifications and respective test procedures.

    Liaise with suppliers to ensure that proposed material technologies comply with Dyson’s requirements and manage aspects of the project according to milestones and schedules.

      Work in close collaboration with body design engineers, procurement and manufacturing engineering teams.

        Represent materials engineering team in design/product reviews related to materials subjects.

          Responsible for researching latest trends/technologies and proposing new material concepts

            Challenge and develop Dyson engineering practices to continuously improve design and material selection/development.


            A degree in Materials Engineering or equivalent.

            Working experience in subjects related to metallurgy, surface treatments, heat treatments and materials testing. 

            Proven experience in the development and approval of automotive suppliers. 

            Good understanding of steel and aluminium technology.

            Experience on cross functional team working.

            Previous experience automotive/aerospace preferred.

            A creative and considered approach to problem solving.

            Self-starter - ability to work independently and driven to deliver to challenging schedules.
