Microservices Senior UX Designer

We’re looking for a senior UX designer with a background of creating seamless user experiences out of microservices and interoperable systems. You’ll be unafraid of data, frameworks or protocols and will have used your design skills to ensure the end user has never been exposed to unnecessary thinking. 
The Connected Features team is part of the broader Design and Product Experience team. You’ll work closely with the Product team, Human Machine Interaction team and Model Making team that work together as part of the Design and Product Experience team. You’ll also work closely with robotics, creative and software teams to develop and implement your UX proposals.


  • You will collaboratively design the experience, behaviours, control and feedback mechanisms for our products taking an empathetic user-centred approach to problem solving. 
  • You will use your knowledge of widely adopted web protocols and query languages (REST, Graphql etc) to give the user the most relevant information and the best possible experience. 
  • You will use your knowledge of different platforms (e.g. Actions on Google or Alexa Show Design) to give users the most contextually relevant information and experience depending on where they’re requesting the information. 
  • You will generate micro-copy and error message copy that works for both screen-based and voice-based user interactions. 
  • You will run workshops, ideation sessions, and use other discovery tools to generate and develop your designs. 
  • Through prototyping and demonstration you’ll bring your proposals to life to help others engage with and comment on the work. You’ll prototype in whatever tool best suits the task you’re exploring from paper card sorting through to high fidelity product demos. 
  • You’ll work with the rest of the Design and Product Experience teams you’ll create a seamless product experience. 
  • You will work closely with other designers, hardware and software developers to create high fidelity prototypes to ensure product behaviours are clearly understood. 
  • You will conduct user trial options when needed to make a decision or validate a design. You’ll be able to utilise Dyson hubs in Chicago, Tokyo, Shanghai and Singapore to test concepts and gain new insights. 
  • You will present, and communicate, design decisions to senior stakeholders including James Dyson and Jake Dyson.


  • Five years’ experience of data design, user-experience design, communication design and/ or equivalent. 
  • Experience of delivering exceptional design solutions using multiple different services and systems. 
  • Experience of working with structured data (e.g. XML, JSON etc.) to deliver design. 
  • Prototyping experience (e.g. paper prototypes, InVision, Framer, in-browser design etc.) 
  • Experience of developing information architectures and content models. 
  • Experience of working in large design teams and communicating your specialism. • Experience in running and reporting user research.
  • Experience working with developers (or developing software yourself). Experience of delivering design for a range of different languages (e.g. C, C++ and Javascript) a benefit. 
  • Experience of Atlassian products (e.g. Jira, Bitbucket etc.) would be a benefit. 
  • Experience of working with voice would be a benefit. 
  • Experience of developing design within a multi-disciplinary environment. 
  • Confidence presenting to senior stakeholders. 
  • Excitement about the future of autonomous products and the evolving landscape of interoperable UX design. 
  • Curiosity and a willingness to continually learn new concepts and ideas.
