Description

Dyson has an opportunity for a Powertrain Test Facility Lead to join the highly successful Powertrain group within in its Electric Vehicle Engineering Team based at its Hullavington HQ.

Accountabilities

This is an exciting opportunity for a driven individual with an engineering background to take complete ownership of a new state of the art powertrain test facility based at Dyson’s EV RDD site at Hullavington Airfield. The facility will provide testing capabilities for powertrain systems and components including battery, inverter, motor, gearbox, charger, VCU, and HV electrical distribution system.

Responsibilities:

• Complete responsibility for Dyson’s new state of the art powertrain test facility

• Assist with test facility setup including liaison with test equipment suppliers, and Dyson Estates and Health and Safety teams

• Setup and maintain test processes, risk assessments, and safe systems of work

• Test facility budget preparation

• Manage and nurture a team of test engineers and technicians

• Work closely with the powertrain engineering team and deliver quality and timely testing

• Schedule testing activities

• Coordinate maintenance and calibration activities to maintain a reliable, quality facility

• Identify new test equipment requirements and implement solutions

• Report on test progress

• Represent the powertrain test team at project update meetings, including creating review presentation material

Skills

• A degree in engineering or relevant science

• Good understanding of EV powertrain systems and components

 > 5 years’ experience managing test facility and team, preferable on EV powertrain

• Experience of managing complex projects and financials

• Energy and dynamism to engage stakeholders in a positive frame to drive timely and successful outcomes

  • Strong interpersonal skills to build productive working relationships and influence others

• Good analytical skills to be able to assess problems thoroughly and drive logical conclusions

• Experience with HV automotive battery packs and associated H&S

• Ability to communicate complex technical issues in an appropriate, concise and accurate fashion, both in writing and verbally

• Ability to multi-task and plan effectively when working with a variety of project teams in an often high-pressure, competitive environment

• Self-starter with the ability to work independently, take on new challenges readily, possess a hands on approach and work with a can-do attitude

• Experience with AVL test equipment is desirable, but not essential
