Programme Lead - Optimisation & Change

Global Optimisation & Change Leads are accountable for the strategic, tactical and continuous improvement activities to drive efficiency and effectiveness into our product development processes to improve time to market and quality of our products.

The purpose of the role is to combine subject matter, change management and project management expertise to develop discreet packages of improvement for PD teams. Optimisation activities should deliver measurable benefits in efficiency, speed, and quality of product development.

The Lead should be highly experienced in product development process and practice. They should be vocal and driven to make bold and incremental changes, with responsibility to lead through the changes to achieve measurable success. Great collaboration and influencing skills are imperative to ensure a global approach to transformation across international sites and cross-functional interactions. Strong strategic thinking is of critical importance, as is the ability to convert the strategy into a successful transformation programme. Solid programme management skills are a prerequisite. The role requires management of resources across the UK and SEA and thus flexibility to travel is required.


Strategy & Sponsorship Engagement:
  • Defining the intended outcomes of strategic & tactical change projects
  • Gaining the appropriate sponsorship for optimisation activities

  • Establishing the core team and budget to deliver the optimisation roadmap and provide support

  • Reporting against the project plans and delivering the intended benefits on time

Process Owner & Stakeholder Collaboration:
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across global locations and functions to drive priorities and buy-in for optimisation activities
  • Ensure the business process framework is operating effectively
Team Management:
  • Develop the Team to meet the business needs and provide the necessary capability to deliver

  • Inspire the Team and indirect resources involved in the change activities to achieve high standards

Process Improvement:
  • Control the scope of activities and enable success against core strategy

  • Oversee feasibility studies to find and evaluate opportunities for optimisation, utilising internal and external resources as appropriate

  • Drive delivery to plan by operating to predetermined budgets and time plans, integrate projects with programme roadmaps, and report progress, risks and issues

  • Develop the team ability to quickly identify process problems and assess their true root causes

  • Work collaboratively to identify connections and opportunities for holistic solutions

  • Organise activities to deliver measurable benefits to maximise the value for PD

Process Adherence:
  • Work closely with the Business Intelligence team, RDD Programme and Project Mnaagers, and Process Owners to create and maintain KPIs that clearly indicate process performance and maintain focus on reaching the optimum balance of speed and effort

User Support & Training:
  • Organise the team to deliver high standards of user support to assist with process adherence and adoption of change 

  • Work closely with Technical Training to provide visibility of optimisation activities to facilitate alignment of training materials and delivery.

  • Excellent track record of creating and embedding change programmes across technical functions and achieving process change in global engineering organisations

  • Strong ability to drive business change through influencing business leaders using sound communication and collaborative decision making skills

  • Strong Project and Programme Management Skills

  • Commercial awareness with a pragmatic approach to product development focused on growing the business.

  • Product development experience across all stages of the Product Development Lifecycle

  • Experience of working in a global environment - sensitive to and experienced in cultural differences

  • Consultant selection and management experience

  • Expertise in advanced engineering tools and techniques

  • Experience in deployment of IT projects

  • Expertise in, or experience of working within, lean product development environments

  • Experience with PLM Systems, such as Siemens Teamcenter.
