Quality Engineer - Advanced

The Quality Engineer role in the Lifecycle Monitoring Team is responsible for maintaining all aspects of product quality (safety, reliability, customer perception and production control) after a Dyson product launches in market. Their focus will be directed by data analysis and feedback from both Market Quality teams and Contract Manufacturers. They will drive initial investigations where risks are identified or escalated. They will maintain good business relationships with key working teams and facilitate/support issue resolution, culminating in robust closed loop improvements to business processes within Dyson and/or at the Contract Manufacturer. In addition, the Snr Product Quality Engineer will be responsible for the review of proposed post-launch changes for Product Quality through the Dyson change management process and advising the Product Quality Lead on approval. Some of the key responsibilities include:


  • Maintain awareness of status and trends of customer claims through data sources facilitated by the Product Quality Lead and supporting Data Analysis Teams
  • Maintain awareness of status and trends of production CTQ/SPC data sources facilitated by the Product Quality Lead and supporting Data Analysis Teams
  • Review escalations from market and production and guide where additional information is required where escalations are confirmed to be compliance or process control issues, drive issue investigation and resolution by working with Contract Manufacturers and relevant internal Dyson teams (where required)
  • Where escalations are confirmed to be safety, reliability, perception or complex specification issues, support cross-team activities on issue investigation and resolution
  • Ensure issue investigation and resolution feeds into robust lessons learned improvements to both Dyson and Contract Manufacturer business processes
  • Support Dyson’s internal change management process after product launch, review proposed changes to product design or process control against potential customer impact and ability to control quality in production and provide approval recommendations to the Product Quality Lead


  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering/Quality discipline with at least 5 years of working experience
  • Data-driven with a good understanding of trend analysis, SPC and the ability to interrogate data sets in innovative ways to support issue investigations and business decisions
  • Excellent analytical skills, structured problem solving skills and a good attention to detail with the ability to deal with complex issues while under time and cost pressure
  • Good communication skills, catering for both technical and non-technical audiences through a variety of media
  • Good influencing skills with the ability to coordinate cross-team activities across disparate teams
  • Good personal organisation skills in terms of work prioritization and efficient time management
  • An understanding of basic mechanical/electrical principles, basic electronics and manufacturing quality control processes is an advantage
