Description

As the Research Technician you will ensure the smooth running of a UK R&D lab, ensuring the equipment is set up in a way that is safe and will not damage the expensive machinery. 

Accountabilities

  • Maintain and operate test equipment and day to day operation of the lab. 
  • Use precision measurement equipment and accurately record builds 
  • Support the build of precision prototype rigs/systems following defined processes 
  • Support engineers in preparing and using the lab equipment 
  • Work to a tight schedule, prioritise workload and deliver on time 
  • Adhere to safe working practices and lab rules 
  • Perform Lab Deputy duties to assist Lab Owner

Skills

  • Education related to Engineering (ITE / Diploma / NVQ) 
  • Experience in a similar field/industry and work environment 
  • Ability to follow detailed test instructions/methods, conducting a wide range of tests using climatic test facilities 
  • Good verbal and written communication to convey information in an appropriate and concise manner 
  • Competence in MS Word and Excel 
  • Maintain a positive attitude with the willingness to approach any task, display drive and enthusiasm to succeed 
  • Have a flexible attitude being adaptive to changing priorities 
  • Work within the lab in an organised and efficient manner 
  • Experience with running software controlled machinery 
  • Ability to follow a build/assembly procedure 
  • Knowledge of COSHH and risk assessments 
  • Experience using workshop machinery, manual milling and turning.
