Description

The James Dyson Foundation (JDF) – Dyson’s international charity – aims to inspire young people to realise their engineering potential. The Foundation provides free resources to schools and hosts workshops to give students a glimpse into the exciting world of engineering. The Foundation also supports university students through scholarships and the James Dyson Award.

We’re looking for a South East Asia JDF Manager to manage our work across Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines, with the support of a JDF Senior Executive, based in Malaysia. We’re looking for someone who can build relationships with local schools and universities. We need an enthusiast – someone excited about engineering. Someone comfortable presenting to a room full of students or a small group of charity directors. A background in education is preferred.

Furthermore, Singapore is now home to the company’s HQ. As the team grows, so do opportunities for internal fundraising and volunteering activity.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The James Dyson Foundation Manager will work with the international JDF team to grow the James Dyson Foundation in South East Asia, focusing on three areas:

• Develop and oversee a targeted schools workshop programme.
• Engage Dyson people in the work of the James Dyson Foundation, communicating with senior stakeholders, encouraging fundraising activities and employee volunteering opportunities. 
• Expand the James Dyson Award, gaining more entries and working closely with the communications team to secure media coverage of the competition.

Accountabilities

Develop a targeted schools programme in South East Asia
• Identify and develop partnerships with schools in Singapore and the Philippines. 
• Create and deliver relevant and engaging school outreach to inspire students and to provide volunteering opportunities for Dyson people.
• Assess appropriate events for the JDF to be part of. 

Lead James Dyson Foundation university partnerships in South East Asia
• Develop strong relationships with key university partners; develop a coherent plan looking at how both the JDF and Dyson work with undergraduates at different points in their degree programme. 
• Manage the James Dyson Award in Singapore and the Philippines, including securing high quality entries, reviewing entries on the James Dyson Award website platform, arranging judging and ensuring strong media coverage for the award. 

Charity governance and planning
• Set and monitor the SEA JDF budget, in consultation with the James Dyson Foundation Global Head. Conduct financial administration for the JDF SEA.
• Execute charitable governance according to financial and charitable laws and regulations.

Build awareness of the James Dyson Foundation
• Be the front of the James Dyson Foundation in South East Asia. Responsible for promoting the Foundation’s activities to relevant audiences: teachers, students, education bodies and Dyson people. 
• Work with the Dyson Communications team to promote the JDF’s activity in the media, spotting and managing opportunities to communicate our work in education press. 
• Work closely with Dyson’s Communications team to write compelling internal and external communications, including opinion pieces and news articles, to build the JDF’s presence in Asia.
• Liaise regularly with the international JDF team, sharing ideas and progress.

Engage Dyson people in South East Asia in the work of the JDF
• Set up employee volunteering opportunities so Dyson people can amplify the work of the JDF.
• Plan internal engagement activity around the James Dyson Award.
• Develop relationships with appropriate charities and encourage philanthropy from Dyson People through match funding schemes and events throughout the year.
• Communicate activities internally to the Dyson Singapore and Philippines teams, creating an understanding of our programme and showcasing employees who have been involved in JDF work. 
• Conduct training for Dyson engineers for external engagement activities with top tier universities and schools.
• Build relationships with senior Dyson stakeholders, regularly communicating our activity and securing their support.

Education and Philanthropy expert in Dyson South East Asia
• Provide expertise and advice on philanthropy in SEA, working with Dyson’s senior leadership and internal social and culture ambassadors to guide activity.
• Understand the education scene in SEA. Develop an expansive knowledge of STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) education by monitoring education news daily and through links with relevant associations. 
• Develop a network of relevant education and engineering bodies to share knowledge or partner with.  

Other
• Manage the James Dyson Foundation Senior Executive, based in Malaysia. Direct and oversee all activity in this region.
• Reports into the Global Head of the James Dyson Foundation, based in the UK.
• Based in Singapore but requires regular travel to Malaysia and the Philippines.
