Description

Dyson’s CSR Responsible Sourcing team is responsible for ensuring working conditions and labour standards in the supply chain meet Dyson’s Ethical and Environmental Code of Conduct. The Code is broadly based on national laws, International Labour Organisation principles and Responsible Business Alliance standards. 
The team trains and assesses suppliers against the standards we expect – last year we audited 100 suppliers and we are on target to do the same again in 2018. Dyson’s CSR audits are in depth reviews of the supplier facility covering everything from health and safety, labour practices and worker interviews. As well as supplier audits, the team has a number of projects specific to migrant workers in Malaysia and conducts quarterly training sessions.

Accountabilities

Ensure that Dyson technology is manufactured in a responsible manner with good conditions for workers in the Dyson supply chain. 
  • Advance Dyson’s efforts to address forced labour risks in the supply chain through supporting implementation of Dyson’s Ethical and Environmental Code of Conduct and training of suppliers and Dyson teams. 
  • Work with internal stakeholders to finalise and ensure approval of Dyson’s Modern Slavery Act Statement in 2019. 
  • Work with the CSR Responsible Sourcing team based in South East Asia on supplier audit planning, understanding outcomes and developing material for supplier training. 
  • Help implement a new data system to improve the way we track supplier audit information and analyse trends. 
  • Alongside other Dyson teams, push forward an effective responsible raw minerals due diligence programme. 
Push forward Dyson’s Environmental Strategy to improve the environmental performance of Dyson and its manufacturing operations. 
  • Lead an energy, emissions and waste review of Dyson and its manufacturing operations – identify opportunities, advocate efficiency and build the case for further transition to renewable alternatives. 
  • Work with internal stakeholders to pursue responsible battery disposal initiatives. 
Act as a catalyst for improvements in Dyson supply chain 
  • Monitor external developments in responsible sourcing and environmental legislation, policy and practices. 
  • Take findings from the world outside Dyson, as well as on-the-ground findings from the Dyson supply chain, to revise policy and implement change.
Lead and inspire cross functional and global teams to deliver responsible sourcing policies and plans 
  • CSR is most effective when multiple disciplines are pulling in the right direction. This role will require you to work not only with the Dyson’s CSR team in South East Asia but also colleagues in procurement, manufacturing, quality and communications to name a few. Your job is to help set the agenda and advocate improvements in responsible sourcing. 
Retailers, NGOs and Audit Partners 
  • Help build the relationship with key retailers by highlighting Dyson’s responsible sourcing activities. 
  •  Own the relationship with NGO partners and third party auditors to ensure that verification audits and consultancy work meets Dyson’s expectations. 
 Crisis Communications 
  • Work with PR team to update Dyson crisis communications plans when necessary. 
Reporting: 
  • You will be responsible for quarterly and annual CSR Responsible Sourcing progress reports. 
Planning and Strategy: 
  • You will work with the Senior CSR Manager based in South East Asia and Global Quality Director on quarterly and yearly planning.

Skills

  • Degree qualified or equivalent 
  • At least 5 years work experience in CSR, ideally with significant experience of responsible sourcing in a high technology organisation. 
  • Strong environmental experience is a bonus. 
  • Sustainability: a demonstrable interest and understanding of sustainability issues and the ways in which these challenges can be tackled 
  • Commercial awareness: has experience of how businesses operate and what makes Dyson tick. A genuine interest in design and making things work better 
  • Data Management: numerate. Able to manipulate data sets to analyse trends and present this information compelling through charts, graphs or words.
  • Strategy: ability to see the bigger picture for Dyson and CSR at Dyson and overcome obstacles to work towards these goals
