Senior Legal Counsel - NPI Research Investments

This role is to act as an in-house corporate and commercial lawyer as part of an active and engaged team committed to enabling Dyson’s continued commercial success.
The role requires a technically excellent and pro-active lawyer to take on support of Dyson’s Research and New Product Innovations teams, as well as leading on investments and M&A activity, global company secretarial and corporate governance work and providing support to the Group Treasury, Finance and Tax functions.


The position will report into the Head of Legal for UK Operations and provides an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and contribution as part of a dynamic and ambitious in-house legal team working on cutting edge technology. 
This is what we need you to do:
  • Build strong relationships with Dyson’s Research and New Product Innovations team and the Group Treasury, Finance and Tax teams across all levels and functions, from design engineers to Finance Directors;
  • Collaborate with fellow leaders (both within the legal department and in the business) to devise efficient strategies for the provision of legal services to Dyson that are fit for future growth and match Dyson’s blueprint for success;
  • Provide expert, ethical and pragmatic advice and support on corporate and commercial issues across the business, helping the business navigate complex issues with an output and delivery focus;
  • Proactively identify arising risk areas and work with the business to develop risk mitigation solutions;
  • Ensure that the service is responsive to client requirements and that work undertaken is reflective of best practice;
  • Draft and negotiate contracts with suppliers;
  • Provide input into contract control processes and reviewing and maintaining precedent documents; 
  • Deliver relevant legal training programmes; 
  • Maintain an up to date and comprehensive knowledge of developments in the relevant areas of law, disseminating the information to peers and the business accordingly; and
  • Handle contract disputes with third parties.


You will have at least 5 years’ post qualification experience in a corporate commercial role, with corporate and M&A experience preferred. Previous in-house exposure is an advantage. You will possess a sound understanding of all aspects of corporate and commercial law and an ability to apply that knowledge pragmatically alongside strong drafting skills and extensive experience of contract negotiation. You'll have the ability to contribute actively in the taking of key business decisions, being comfortable with autonomy, be prepared to challenge the status quo, and have the confidence and technical ability to deal with issues outside your experience.
