This role houses an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented team player to be an important member of the quality team supporting Dyson cell development.  Being the junction point between the cell recipe technology through to the customer pack requirements, delivering a solution to meet aspirations of both. 
The successful candidate will have a strong record of managing quality in the areas of Li-ion batteries (or similar technological industry), their research and manufacture, materials chemistry, or battery design and architecture. The candidate will also have an exceptional project organisation, risk assessment and communication skills coupled with the initiative and patience to see large projects to completion.
Reporting to the Energy Storage Quality Manager, the role will encompass Safety appraisal, critical to quality requirement setting, risk management, mitigation and product and process qualification to manufacture.


  • Main responsibility of this role is to own all reliability and safety risks in the cell design and ensure solutions are mitigated to an acceptable level before start of production.
  • Work with, and influence, the Electric Vehicle Programme & Engineering Management teams to ensure that we collectively deliver a high quality product.
  • To enable that, the candidate has to work hand in hand with the Energy Storage Design engineers and other safety functions to influence design for reliability and safety in the processes during development. 
  • Ensure design takes into consideration the risks that might be imposed during assembly of the battery cells with a proper Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) reviews and discussions.
  • Undertake ESS technical risk assessment and management reviews to ensure project meets quality targets
  • Energy Storage Systems (ESS) Supplier qualification and management.
  • Own the Supplier Quality Assurance activities within the supply chain including: APQP, PPAP, Supplier assessment audits and surveillance visits leading to launch.
  • Problem resolution of parts quality issues working with suppliers using 8D and other industry tools to deliver a solution to mass production.
  • Process qualification and part approval at product launch


  • At least 5 years of post-qualification experience in batteries/ cells (or similar technological industry) design or manufacture.
  • Educated to Degree/ Masters level in engineering 
  • Formal quality training – quality tools, six sigma, APQP, ISO/IATF standards etc.
  • Experience working with batteries/ cells ( or similar technological industry) development and production.
  • Ability to demonstrate good understanding of cell design and applications in modules and pack systems.
  • Familiar with running FMEA workshops and understands the importance of a thorough risk assessment process.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, using 8D process. 
  • Comfort with autonomy and willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • Confidence and technical ability to be able to deal with issues and the ability to learn quickly on the job.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate others to achieve outstanding results.
  • Technical and personal credibility to work effectively with cross functional teams and other business functions
  • Good commercial awareness with pragmatic approach to technology development with a business focus
  • Sound knowledge in ISO 9001/IATF 16949/ VDA6.3
  • Have a comprehensive technical understanding of Dyson products and the ability to determine the right technical direction when quality issues arise.
  • Willing to travel to all Dyson Energy Storage locations, Global suppliers and offices.
