Senior Software Manager - Tools and Process

About us

Software is becoming a bigger part of our Dyson products. Connectivity, advanced User Interfaces and Artificial Intelligence are part of the solutions on most of our products.  Therefore, the software team is growing significantly in the next few years, while delivering more and more projects.In order to meet the increasing demand of software development, there is a need for Software Application Lifecycle Management (SW ALM) Services  which provide centralised build management systems for the Dyson Software global teams and development their partners with integrated quality and security.  The Senior Tools and Process Senior Manager owns these SW ALM Services and interfaces between the SW dev teams and the server maintenance/hosting teams, understanding technology deeply at both the service level and at the development level, understands where the gaps often are between these two, and is excited about filling those gaps and taking proactive steps to monitor and avoid or minimise service disruption for users.

About the role

  • Working very closely with Dyson IT as partners, to define a new operating and support model for new and existing Software ALM Services 
  • Responsible to own, define, deploy and support all Software ALM services required to enable development, making it as automated and efficient as possible
  • Responsible to own and develop the centralised CI pipeline for all RDD software teams across each site with adequate quality and security measures in place 
  • Responsible to work alongside Dyson Global SW Agile Release Train leaders, who are your customer internally in Dyson, to plan, implement and support their requests putting support services in place for new capabilities 
  • Responsible for reporting priorities and escalating any issues, blockers 
  • Responsible to build, manage, develop and engage a team to provide scalable devops capability required to manage the growing user base of SW ALM services 
  • Responsible to agree ownership of services for 24x7 support with tracked SLAs to measure performance, escalating non-compliance issues 
  • Responsible to constantly review industry standards to update and improve SW ALM services 
  • Responsible to ensure systems are configured with appropriate access and permissions to enable development, collaboration and dashboarded reporting at every level across all teams
  • Responsible to define, deploy and improve operating processes for the SW department through a published process 
  • Responsible to manage the budgets required for SW ALM services, ensuring that adequate budgets are available and licences are renewed in a timely manor 
  • Responsible to manage vendor relationships with key suppliers for the best value for Dyson from every service

About you

  • You should be data driven, with experience in creating dashboards for customers
  • You should have 5 years experience working in and operations environment or Technical support role with knowledge in application infrastructure hosting on-prem and cloud, configuration layers and be able to provide technical leadership to the team 
  • You should have 3 years experience working in a devops environment (automating support and maintaining services)
  • You should have experience with Docker, Linux, Windows, VMWare, Azure, AWS, Atlassian Tools
  • Global Team Management 
  • You should have experience in complex multi-application architecture definition and configuration 
  • You should have experience in working with outsource partners to fill skill gaps for critical delivery
  • You should be able to make priority calls and escalate to the Software Director where required with proposed solutions to the situation/issue
  • You should be able to build bridges collaborating within SW and our key stakeholders both internally and externally 
  • You should have the ability to communicate effectively with partners and customers to set expectations
  • You should have strong cross-functional collaboration skills, relationship building skills, and ability to achieve results without direct reporting relationships
  • You should have a good understanding of the software development lifecycle best practices  and quality
