Dyson has opportunities for a talented and experienced Senior EDU System Simulation Engineer to join the highly successful Motors and Power Systems Research Team, within Dyson’s Research, Development (RDD) department, based in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, U.K. You will join a growing team of multi-disciplined engineers to develop next generation powertrain for Dyson Electric Vehicle (EV). The role focus on system simulation model for electric drive unit (EDU) including E-motor, transmission and inverter.


• Develop multi-physics simulation model to simulate EDU thermal behaviour and analysis noise, vibration and harness (NVH) • Provide insight for EDU cooling system design, mounting scheme, transmission and E-Motor design and control • Suggest process improvement and investigate new method and design to improve EDU NVH and thermal • Provide support of EDU NVH’s impact on vehicle performance • Work with EDU team, HV team and battery team to deliver the most efficient, cost effective powertrain system to meet Dyson EV requirements


• A degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline (2:1 degree or better) with a demonstrable level of industrial experience in multi-physics simulation for electrical drive system • 3+ years’ experience of using Altaire suite, Ansys, MagNet and Matlab or equivalent simulation tool • Experience of modelling multi-physics simulation for EDU system • In-depth understanding of thermal, vibration and acoustic principles • Experience of analysing and testing NVH in both time and frequency domain • General knowledge of electromagnetic design for electrical motor and its control algorithm • General knowledge of power electronic devices characteristics specifically IGBTs, SiC and GaN • General knowledge of transmission design • Experience in electric vehicle will be a plus benefits • Develop innovative & novel concepts with high value IP • Experience working with safety critical systems is preferred, specifically ISO26262 • Understand and comply with all relevant International Standards.
