The systems engineering team in Dyson RDD are responsible for ensuring that all technologies are properly understood and thoroughly integrated into every new product we develop.  They do this by working with established engineering functions and the category team to reduce and remove engineering risk resulting from interactions between disciplines.  Systems engineers bring a broad based engineering skillset making them capable of understanding the requirements, design solutions and verification of mechanical, electromechanical and electronic assemblies


  • System Architecture definition: work with and support the product architecture lead in developing the definition of candidate system architectures. Participate in trade-off studies and decision analysis to arrive at an agreed functional & physical architecture solution.

  • Requirements capture & management: capture internal customer & end user needs and distil into functional and non-functional requirements. Manage the derivation & flow-down to lower-level subsystem and module level component requirements.

  • Use a model based systems engineering approach to capture the product use cases, requirements and system architecture. 

  • Provide engineering guidance and oversight to our Systems Engineering team, possibly including line management.

  • Utilise best industry practices to fully understand, describe and map the requirements of our products to ensure the successful technical development.

  • Work with the relevant technical experts to ensure that every system and subsystem is properly understood, backed up with calculation and simulation wherever possible.

  • Technically assess the readiness of our projects before they pass through development milestones.

  • Drive technical problem solving of high priority engineering issues, particularly of problems straddling mechanical and electrical disciplines.

  • Drive to understand the key design parameters through system modelling/simulation

  • Create a thorough diagrammatic model of a given product, describing its requirements, functions, systems and sub-systems.

  • Work with the mechanical and electronics engineering teams to deliver assemblies that allow the product to meet its requirements

  • Assist with technical problem solving, particularly of problems straddling mechanical and electrical disciplines.
    Identify and implement design tools and methods to support continuous improvement of our systems engineering team.

  • Work closely with quality, safety and reliability teams to ensure the product meets all applicable standards.

  • Provide estimates of engineering effort to assist in the planning and scheduling of activities.


  • A good bachelors or master’s degree in either mechanical or electronics disciplines.

  • Experience in a product development environment, contributing to the delivery of mechanical and/or electronic assemblies.

  • Good analytical ability and attention to detail.

  • Ability to communicate appropriate, concise and accurate information in written and verbal format.

  • Possess well-developed influencing skills i.e. the ability to persuade and influence cross-functionally at all levels.

  • Ability to adapt or generate imaginative and innovative ideas, in line with core Dyson values.

  • To be able to multi-task and plan effectively when working with a variety of project teams in an often high-pressure, competitive environment.

  • Have the ability to develop parametric system models ideally using the MathWorks suite of tools or equivalent. 

  • Experience of MBSE, SysML, Enterprise Architect or experience of requirements management tools in general would be advantageous.
