Systems Engineer – NPI

Dyson RDD develop products that are deliberately different and verifiably better than the competition. These solutions are increasingly complex and require closer and closer integration of traditionally separate engineering disciplines. We are introducing systems engineering as a core competency throughout RDD, which all of our engineers can use to some extent to get to grips with that complexity. 
Our systems engineering team helps us to realise this capability. We decompose the problem into digestible chunks: clarifying our products requirements, their functions, behaviour and physical architecture. The breadth of knowledge of our systems engineers, and their depth of knowledge of our technologies, allows them to question the solutions from any team, finding and resolving risks before they become issues. 
Our System Engineers are recognised as some of our strongest ‘all round’ engineers, leveraging system engineering tools and methods, to bring clarity from ambiguity. They may be allocated full time to our most complex products or they might find themselves looking after a portfolio of products with a common architecture.


  • Elicit, agree and communicate the requirements of our products at user, product, and sub-system levels. 
  • Work collaboratively across functional teams to develop and agree robust system architectures for our new products and platforms. 
  • Lead the system integration activities on projects to ensure that sub-systems work seamlessly together to meet our product requirements. 
  • Develop and maintain validation and verification strategies. 
  • Ensure system level risks are understood, managed and communicated effectively. 
  • Own and coordinate multi-domain physics simulation models to speed up development time. 
  • Help us build a world-class systems engineering capability by contributing to methods, tools and training.


  • An interest in systems thinking and systems engineering with an understanding of architecture definition and requirements analysis 
  • An ability to operate effectively on ambiguous early stage product development projects. 
  • Well-developed influencing skills i.e. the ability to persuade and influence cross-functionally at all levels. 
  • An inquisitive mind - an interest in the underlying principles behind all engineering problems regardless of discipline, and a desire to broaden your skillset. 
  • A willingness to challenge convention, change direction and redefine process to ensure we’re delivering real value. 
  • A working approach that actively pursues building relationships across and between functions. 
  • The ability to effectively communicate complex ideas and concepts, either verbally or in writing, tailoring communication to suit different levels, particularly senior management. 
  • A hands on problem solving attitude. 
  • An analytical approach to your work, backed up by a track record of analytical problem solving and prediction through simulation & calculation.
  • Experience of developing and validating system models in Simscape/Simulink and MATLAB. • Some experience using MBSE methods with SysML.
