Description

The Automotive Thermal Test and Development Engineer will be involved in the full range of thermal test and development activities required to assess the thermal performance of the vehicle, with primary focus on the coolant and refrigerant systems, from early prototype stage and be responsible for providing test oversight of key areas of the air and thermal management solution.

Accountabilities

  • Support test planning and preparation of prototype vehicles, benchmark vehicles and test rigs using current and external facilities and help to define and specify further equipment requirements.
  • Oversee, perform and analyse thermal tests, from benchtop rig tests to full climatic chamber, rolling-road testing
  • Provide design advice and guidance to Design Managers and Engineers, taking on a role of responsibility for the assigned area
  • Provide clear and informative results from testing
  • Be able to generate innovative solutions to encountered challenges
  • Identify key areas for further investigation
  • Liaise with other analysis and test teams to plan and perform experimental validations, comparing post-processed results with simulations and make informed design recommendations.

Skills

  • Proven experience in automotive thermal testing of prototypes and production vehicles
  • Good understanding of Thermal and Aerodynamic principles, preferably with an excellent/Master’s degree in Thermodynamics, Fluid Dynamics, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with focus on thermal aspects desirable (other relevant engineering disciplines will be considered)
  • Experience of validating simulations against test is desirable
  • Ability to work within a cross-functional team and take a guiding role relating to thermal testing development and problem solving to ensure delivery of robust product capable solutions
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues in an appropriate, concise and accurate fashion, both in writing and verbally
