Description

We’re looking for our Voice User Experience (VUX) designer to join our Design and Product Experience team. You’ll have experience of creating both pure voice experiences and voice experiences supported by a visual user interface. 
The HMI team is part of the broader Design and Product Experience team. You’ll work closely with the Product team, Connected Features team and Model Making team that work together as part of the Design and Product Experience team. You’ll also work closely with robotics and software teams to implement your architecture.

Accountabilities

  • You will collaboratively design the experience, behaviours, control and feedback mechanisms for our products taking an empathetic user-centred approach to problem solving. 
  • You will collaboratively design the tone of voice and identity for our products’ voice. 
  • You will establish information hierarchy and naming conventions for voice. 
  • You will use your knowledge of voice platforms (e.g. Apple, Amazon, Google, Baidu etc.) to create the most appropriate Intents/ Actions for the product on that platform. 
  • You will allow different users to express different intents to get the same action. You won’t force the user to adopt the language of the product but work to make the product adapt to the user. 
  • You will be able to translate the messy human world – and our various ways of verbally communicating – in to something that a machine can understand. 
  • You will run workshops, ideation sessions, and use other discovery tools to generate and test your voice designs. 
  • You’ll work with the rest of the Design and Product Experience teams you’ll create a seamless product experience. 
  • Through prototyping and demonstration you’ll bring your proposals to life to help others engage with and comment on the work. You’ll prototype in whatever tool best suits the task you’re exploring from paper card sorting through to high fidelity product demos. 
  • You will work closely with other designers, hardware and software developers to create high fidelity prototypes to ensure product behaviours are clearly understood. 
  • You will conduct user trial options when needed to make a decision or validate a design. You’ll be able to utilise Dyson hubs in Chicago, Tokyo, Shanghai and Singapore to test concepts and gain new insights. 
  • You will present, and communicate, voice design decisions to senior stakeholders including James Dyson and Jake Dyson.

Skills

  • Experience of voice design, voice user experience design, communication design and/ or related discipline • Voice prototyping experience (e.g. Adobe XD, Alexa Skill Builder, Actions on Google, Sayspring etc.) 
  • Experience of working in large design teams and communicating your specialism 
  • Experience of testing information architectures (e.g. index card sorting, Treejack, UserZoom etc.) 
  • Experience of Conversation Analysis (CA) as a discipline
  • Experience in running and reporting user research 
  • Experience working with developers (or developing software yourself) 
  • Experience of Atlassian products (e.g. Jira, Bitbucket etc.) would be a benefit 
  • Experience of developing voice across a range of products would be a benefit 
  • Experience of developing voice alongside audio and haptic designers would be a benefit 
  • Confidence presenting to senior stakeholders 
  • Excitement about the future of autonomous products and the evolving landscape of voice UX design 
  • Curiosity and a willingness to continually learn new concepts and ideas
