Being a pivotal role in the concept to production of a Dyson Designed Cell puts the Energy Storage Development (ESD) team at the heart of this exciting journey. The Team will translate early concept directions into fully developed, optimised & validated solutions to make at high volume for the next generation of Dyson products.
About the role
This role forms key technical support of hands-on battery cell production using both manual and automated processes to demonstrate Dyson’s ambitious energy storage solutions. Conduct precise, agile and flexible cell prototyping based on requirements from cross-functional teams, improve operating efficiency with no compromise of safety and ensure all quality of parts, assemblies and prototype cells for Dyson’s cell development acceleration and realization.
A successful candidate will be a quick learner and detailed oriented having the practical skills to support whole cell build activities.
Reporting to the ESD Cell Application team. The role will encompass cell prototyping, quality inspection in a laboratory and technical contribution.
Be part of a physical cell build team to support at all stages of cell development activities from manual and automated prototyping through to mass production.
Support flexible and quality-controlled cell prototyping is met for Form, Fit & Function of the cells depending on development purposes before passing to cell verification and validation team.
Perform incoming quality control (IQC), in-process quality control (IPQC) and outgoing quality control (OQC) to secure all parts, assemblies and cell quality correctly.
Setup, manage, optimise and maintain whole cell build related materials, tools and equipment with required quality and quantity.
Ensure health safety and environment (HSE) and standard operating procedure (SOP) in cell build laboratories are constructed, documented and followed.
Actively prototype cells with enough flexibility for comprehensive design and process development with cross-functional teams to demonstrate and improve Dyson’s energy storage technologies.
Provide clear explanation of technical information and supporting documentation to ensure accurate hand over either to other teams within the UK or Far East.
Build relationships with internal departments, external suppliers, industry bodies within Energy Storage.
Contribute to cell recycling from the viewpoint of the cell build team to ensure circular economy in key cell materials for reducing environmental impact.
Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Material Science or related background
Practical experience of working in product research, development or production
An ability to execute broad cell build related hands-on activities following HSE and SOP
Experience of IQC, IPQC and OQC to keep cell build quality well-controlled
An ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently without losing focus
Good communication skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
Good documentation skills to summarize and update SOP and relevant reports
Good organisational skills with a methodical and detailed approach
Persistent approach to problem solving and an inquisitive nature
Must demonstrate a passion for working for Dyson.
Appreciation of relevant battery technology or battery products across the industry.
Proficient to use the basic measurement instrument tools and analyse the data with statistical tool e.g. JMP or Minitab etc.
When required, travel to other Dyson facilities in Asia/UK for project engineering build support.
