About you

This position is recognised as being either the UK or MDC subject matter expert in the area of Mechanical Analysis for the Floorcare Category Technology Development team.

This individual is accountable for overseeing & developing the work delivered by a team of world class experts in the areas of Mechanical Analysis.  Building and developing the team’s capabilities for all Floorcare projects is an essential part of the role. The APE is also responsible for providing a supportive, mentoring role to the other Mechanical Analysis Engineers in the team to allow them to flourish & develop in their roles.

The ability to collaborate and influence across Dyson’s other Structural Analysis & FEA teams both in the UK & MDC (Research/NPI & cross-category) is key. Reporting technical maturity of development projects & highlighting risk where appropriate to Management levels are also critical to success in this role.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Take the leading role in assessing & developing the Mechanical Analysis understanding & capability in Floorcare, particularly focusing on projects & technologies that are new and novel to Dyson.

  • Continually strive to improve team capabilities (theoretical, experimental & analytical) to ensure that the project risks in the area of Mechanical Analysis are minimised, ensuring that all shortfalls in capability are recognised early & mitigated for.

  • Build & maintain effective, trustworthy, collaborative relationships with upstream & downstream global structures teams (including NPI, Research and cross-category teams).

  • Development & ownership of medium to long term plan for improving team capabilities in the area of structural analysis & FEA.

  • Provide support & technical mentoring to other Mechanical Analysis engineers within the Floorcare Category of the Technology Development teams at all global locations.

  • Govern the quality and timeliness of the engineering output in the area of Structures, ensuring integrity, honesty & transparency.

  • Provide regular top-level assessments of project risk in the area of Mechanical Analysis at all relevant management levels & manage expectations.

  • Continuously strive to improve the productivity & effectiveness of the Mechanical Analysis Teams.

  • Communicate the maturity of our technical solutions at all relevant managerial levels, as required, and manage expectations.

About you

  • Extensive experience in a similar role in the field of Mechanical Analysis (Structural & FEA) both experimental & simulation
    Degree in a Mechanical Engineering-related discipline

  • Well-developed, advanced understanding of the technical discipline of Structural Analysis & FEA.

  • An advanced to Expert-level understanding of theoretical, experimental & engineering simulation for the area of Mechanical Analysis.

  • An expert working knowledge of ANSYS Mechanical & Moldflow software tools.

  • A solid understanding of Systems Engineering tools.
