The Associate Principal Engineer will get involvedin the design, specification of manufacturing and assembly processes for new and pioneering consumer appliance products within Dyson’s category. 


As a member of the RDD Global Manufacturing Engineering –based in Malmesbury UK, you will work in multi-disciplinary global project teams to define, specify and deliver processes to produce Dyson products. You will be working with Dyson’s Research in UK and New Product Innovation teams to investigate and develop novel processes to support and realise new product ideas. 


The role will require a highly motivated, creative, methodical, and flexible person, ready to take on challenges with a pragmatic approach. You will act as a role model and provide guidance, supporting and providing technical direction with hands on approach in our facility working in multiple projects in all Dyson Categories. 


About the Role

Provide strong technical leadership in managing Process Engineering, Equipment Engineering, Product Engineering, and New Product development. 

Take a proactive approach in the design and improvement of robust solutions and resolutions of technical challenges across projects. 

Lead technical discussions and do detailed analysis for problem solving and root cause identification. 

Act as subject matter expert in manufacturing assembly processes, part creation, disseminating knowledge, guiding and mentor engineers in methodology, best practice and standards. 

Proactively identify technical risks within projects and influence engineering teams in their resolution, often taking the lead in the design and testing of the engineering solution. 

Ensure design solutions meet product specifications and functional requirements (performance, reliability, DFM, cost and compliance with international regulatory standards) 

Challenge and develop best practice and process improvements within team and across the wider RDD function 

Liaise and collaborate with various Dyson engineering teams (Mechanical, Compliance, Software, Test, etc) across the UK and South East Asia to ensure product and system requirements are satisfied, and drive product development through to production 

Good working knowledge in DOE, POC and POP 

Active participation in the sign-off of milestones 

Required to communicate and present to all levels of the organization. Strong interpersonal/teaming skills, able to communicate effectively with employees from all levels of the organization. 


About you

As an Associate Principal Engineer, you must be an experienced manufacturing engineer capable of working unsupervised to deliver high quality solutions.  

You must have experience of the whole product development lifecycle, from initial concept through to mass production and product sustainability. 

Degree qualified or equivalent experience. 

In-depth knowledge and experienced in manufacturing processes and equipment specification for mass production 

Working knowledge of various manufacturing assembly processes 

Strong drive, execution and complex problem-solving abilities to meet engineering, safety, operational and business goals. 

Attention to detail plus strong ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. 

Demonstrated track record of significant engineering accomplishments, particularly in the areas of process, product, automation, and maintenance management as well as best practices. 

Experience of product development for manufacturing and assembly processes for mass production through multiple product development cycles. 

Experience of DFM, DFX, and DFMEA. 

Lean experience with excellent analytical and problem-solving ability 

Highly motivated and self-driven with excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and able to influence the work of others
