About the role

The Machine Learning team, responsible for delivering tangibly intelligent products across all categories at Dyson, is looking for an Associate Principle Machine Learning Engineer to join the UK team. You will be working within a global, diverse, highly skilled and multi-functional machine learning team; conceiving and delivering technology right at the beginning of our product development cycle.  

Working alongside researchers, engineers, and designers, we blend cutting-edge machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques with an in-depth understanding of user behaviours. We utilise anonymised data from our connected devices and build prototype rigs to conduct rigorous qualitative and quantitative experiments and trials, inventing novel solutions to 'impossible' problems. 

As a technical leader, you will play a pivotal role in a rapidly growing team. You will make use of your deep, broad understanding of signal processing, data science, machine learning and computer vision to inspire and guide our engineers across our portfolio of projects. You will take ownership for solving our most challenging problems, while seeking opportunities to build on our existing capabilities and drive continuous change. We are seeking an exceptional candidate with a proven track record of innovation and delivery of machine learning tools across a diverse range of technical areas.   


  • Use your deep technical expertise to solve our most challenging problems 

  • Stay up to date with, and introduce others to, cutting edge machine learning tools, frameworks and processes, becoming a point of contact for other team members as well as the wider business

  • Provide technical support to all team members, review, asses and guide project plans, uphold standards and ensuring rigor and robustness in all we do

  • Lead new technical initiatives, guide and inspire scientists, engineers, and designers to successfully implement and deploy intelligent functionalities on Dyson’s future products

  • Progress projects using Dyson’s research milestone process; conduct and analyse investigations, document, and report findings, communicate to key stakeholders, and handover to downstream teams

  • Contribute to the ML team strategy and blueprint. Build understand of the business goals and identify new areas for research and capability expansion

  • Generate novel intellectual property

About you

  • PhD in Computer Science, or related STEM field

  • 10+ years experience with time in industrial research and development setting

  • Proven experience of developing and implementing machine learning, computer vision and deep learning algorithms across complex platforms including hardware, software applications and cloud-based components to solve real-world problems

  • In depth knowledge of feature engineering, unsupervised/supervised machine learning algorithms, deep learning, signal processing and time series analysis and statistical modelling.

  • Highly experienced in coding with python and C/C++ and their respective computer vision ML/Deep Learning libraries and frameworks

  • Superb research and problem-solving abilities; enthusiasm to learn and share latest methods/techniques within the team

  • Great communication and collaboration skills

  • Passionate about the technical and personal development of junior team members
