Being a pivotal role in the concept to production of a Dyson Designed Cell puts the Development team at the heart of this exciting journey. The Team will translate early concept directions into fully developed, optimised & validated solutions to make at high volume for the next generation of Dyson products.
About the role
Development of novel Cell technology comes with new and highly challenging manufacturing processes. This role encompasses processes required to progress technology established in research through to scaled manufacture. Being the junction point for the cell technology and the manufacturing requirements to deliver a solution to meet aspirations of both.
A successful candidate will work in the Energy Storage Development team to deliver solutions to difficult object problems where design and development of novel cell manufacturing processes are required; along with proven track records in solving a variety of complex engineering problems from design to realisation. Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, the role will be a technical contributor with demonstrated technical leadership. He/She will be part of a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-moving and dynamic environment.
Perform simulation analysis to validate process designs and concepts to meet product and/or equipment requirements in terms of mechanical, materials, thermal, structural, safety aspects
Use modelling to understand the existing processes and designs, and to interpret data from experiments
Analyse technical requirements and recommend strategy using computational approach as part of proof of concept and/or continuous process improvement
Be the driver of advancing modelling capabilities for complex engineering problems and develop new modelling tools and capabilities as needed
Play an active role in supporting the understanding of future Dyson cell requirements, working with the research and development teams to drive optimisation and implementation of innovative new technologies that can be incorporated into clear manufacturing process and equipment needs to give a performance, cost, productivity or environmental advantage
Build relationships with internal departments, external regulators, industry bodies within Energy Storage
Ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation
Ability to work sensitively, discretely, and effectively across Dyson
At least 8 years of experience of leading technical matters within simulation environment and process development of new products
Deep knowledge in numerical modelling
Strong foundation in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, structural mechanics, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) or mechanics of materials
Design and execution of empirical experiments (DOE) to validate simulation models
Proficient in using a variety of FEA and CFD software, preferred experience in ANSYS, Abaqus, COMSOL, SimScale or Siemens NX suite of products is highly desirable
Ability to demonstrate persistent approach to problem solving and an inquisitive nature
Strong presentation skills with ability to communicate with confidence
A good team player, highly motivated with can-do attitude
Must demonstrate a passion for working for Dyson
Appreciation of relevant Battery technology or battery products across the industry
A broad understanding of material properties and manufacturing processes related to Battery cell and module technologies
Experience in programming/scripting language such as Matlab, Python, C/C++, Java or SQL for engineering analysis
Good experience in design for manufacturing (DFM) guidelines and practices
Qualifications / Professional Memberships:
Master or PhD degree (scientific/engineering based)
