About us
At Dyson we are encouraged to think differently, challenge convention and be unafraid to make mistakes. We’re creative, collaborative, practical and enthusiastic. But most of all we’re hugely passionate about what we do.
Dyson offers a unique opportunity for talented individuals to invent, design and develop market leading products for the global market. By working in our world-class research, design and development (RDD) department, these individuals have the opportunity to work alongside leading technical specialists and highly motivated creative people to create products which fulfil our ambition of being truly different and better than our competitors.
About the role
Dyson develop products which are deliberately different and verifiably better than the competition. These solutions are increasingly complex and require closer and closer integration of traditionally separate engineering disciplines. We’re rapidly expanding our product systems engineering team to help us manage that complexity and ultimately get our new ideas to market sooner.
Our product systems engineers help us to realise this capability:
They work at the core of our early stage product development teams using systems engineering tools and methods to bring clarity from ambiguity.
Translate our product vision into clear and concise user, business and product requirements.
Use MBSE methods to develop product architectures. Decomposing the problem into digestible functional, physical and behavioural chunks.
Build and coordinate system wide simulations to help us to balance requirements early.
Work collaboratively with all our engineering teams to clarify work packages, manage trade-off studies and resolve engineering issues.
Opportunity to lead and coach a growing core team of Systems Engineers of all levels of expertise, including graduate engineers. This might also include the recruitment of new and talented engineers into the group.
In addition to project responsibility, the associate principal systems engineer will play a key role in developing our systems engineering capability more widely.
This includes:
Owning and delivering on our roadmap towards full integration of model-based systems engineering – including tool selection and customisation, methods development and training.
Helping us pivot our focus from products to product platforms to maximise reuse of engineering effort.
Providing targeted coaching, mentoring and consultancy to teams and individuals across RDD to enhance their use of systems engineering or resolve specific technical challenges
