Our Energy Storage team is responsible for new battery technology that will deliver significantly better performance than conventional battery cells.

About the role

The main role of Associate/Principal Engineer is to provide technical leadership, support and direction for the new process of Li-Ion Battery Electrode Process. The Associate/Principal Engineer will work together with RDD to make an automated production lines to mass produce high volume (Anode, Cathode and Separator roll to roll electrodes. The role will be based in manufacturing facility and include support for start-up of a new manufacturing facility within the country of Singapore.

Candidate for this role is expected to work closely with RDD, Engineering, Operations, Finance and our key equipment suppliers ensuring new Equipment/Product/Process are successfully setup and have sufficient margin with capability of being produced in high volume manufacturing environment at the targeted cost and within planned timeframe.

Identified candidate will help to maximize design flexibility, increase manufacturing capability and lower production costs at early stages of the project. They will also be expected to identify future opportunities/benefits to manufacturing operations.

Competent in the process of making battery electrodes and understanding and experience in solvent casting equipment from Design > Procurement > Testing > Installation > Validation > Start of Production. The Associate/Principal Engineer will also be responsible for the process of mixing the battery electrode chemicals and calendaring process after electrode casting.

Accountabilities & key responsibilities in the following:

  • Putting together a schedule of project plan and articulating the plan to key stakeholders.

  • Putting together a package and summary of investment to support Capex and purchase orders generation with justification for finance review.

  • Sound knowledge of high-end automation design principles for mechanical and control systems.

  • Work with external suppliers to identify and develop feasible manufacturing/automation solutions to support mass production.

  • Understand facility/utility hook-up and safety requirements to support setup of new production line or factory.

  • Lead Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) prior to handing over production line to operations in accordance with stabilised standards and putting all test data together into a review package for key stakeholders.

  • Ensure resources including but not limited to manpower and materials are readily available to support timely and successful completion of projects.

  • Lead and hold tough conversions with internal and external parties to support problem solving.

About you

  • Bachelor’s Degree/ Master in any engineering discipline preferably mechanical engineering.

  • Experience of manufacturing facility for Li-Ion Battery operation setup including installation of equipment, resource hiring/deployment.

  • 10 Years+ experience in battery electrode manufacturing with solvent casting / extrusion of plastics.

  • 10+ year’s exposure in high volume manufacturing organization preferably with high precision automated manufacturing exposure.

  • Experience working on automation including equipment and process automation with ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvements. 

  • High levels of experience and competence in Design / Improvement of automation projects with ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvements. 

  • Detailed knowledge of Industrial Automation (Robotics, Pneumatics, Servo Motor, PLC, HMI and general Mechanical & Electrical Engineering principles)

  • Sound knowledge of Industrial Safety (CE Regulations for Equipment, PUWER regulations, Good knowledge in equipment Installation practices, Permit to Work, risk assessments, method statements).

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

  • Preferably skilled in data analysis (JMP, Minitab) with Black Belt or higher in Six Sigma training. Good understanding of quality tools and Six Sigma concepts e.g., CpK, GR&R, DMAIC, SPC with ability to apply these across projects.

  • Understanding of LEAN manufacturing concepts and ability to apply these concepts.

  • Understands yield reporting and basic MES reporting setup.

  • Detailed knowledge in large project planning and budgets.

  • Understands change management process. 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to facilitate successful interactions with team members and management.

  • Ability to deliver results under pressure and tight timelines and to effectively communicate at all levels within the organization.

  • Ability to work in high pressure rapid development environment.
