Category Finance Manager (Health & Beauty)

This is a pivotal role within the Health and Beauty (H&B) team. This role is responsible for ensuring the future health of the H&B Category, bringing financial rigour to the key strategic decisions faced by the business in the development of its product portfolio, ensuring that we support our strategic priorities and solve tomorrow’s problems today. 
You will be a key point of contact for the RDD (across NPD and NPI) and Commercial teams, ensuring that sufficient financial rigour is applied to key decision making. The role involves the preparation and ownership of financial business cases for Research Design and Development (RDD) projects from the beginning of the product development process to launch across the Health and Beauty Portfolio (Environmental Control, Lighting, and Personal Care). The role also comprises financial and strategic business partnering of upstream NPI (New product innovation) projects not yet at RDD resolution.  This involves responsibility for the formal reporting of the financial status of projects, as well as reporting/stakeholder management within Commercial, Group Finance and Engineering.

Essential Duties
  • Key responsibility of the role will be to work on technology business cases across the H&B category.
  • Ownership of NPD/NPI business cases/financial strategy for H&B Projects
  • Preparation and ownership of EC/Lighting/PC business cases for milestones from BA/PSM to SOP 
  • Business Partner – EC/Lighting/PC RDD directors and team, design Managers, Programme managers, Strategy, Cost
  • Bridge between Commercial Strategy team, H&B Commercial and H&B Finance team
  • Develop and drive the business to deliver the H&B 5 year plan. Ensuring it is supported and trackable and delivers on strategic priorities
  • Category strategy with Commercial/New Category Commercial and portfolio analysis & effectiveness
  • Project Prioritisation
  • Capex/OPEX investment decision analysis – timing, value for money and production opportunities
  • Identify and implement internal process improvements to streamline across the business
  • Ensure that data capture of financial inputs from Business Units are accurate and submitted on a timely basis
  • Provide flexible ad-hoc support to the Senior Commercial Finance Managers and Group/Category FD/HOF, including direct liaison with Category and Finance Directors 
  • Promote financial understanding and education with non-finance stakeholders 
SkillsThis role works with a number of different non-finance functions across the business and is highly visible. It is great opportunity to develop a thorough understanding of Dyson’s product development process and go to market strategies from both a finance and non-finance perspective.
The role holder is required to have the ability to balance big picture thinking with an eye for detail.  Being conscientious about the integrity of the data presented, whilst at the same time maintaining a pragmatic and flexible approach. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for this role, as is the confidence to challenge senior stakeholders based on financial data.


  • Fully qualified and experienced Accountant with at least 5 years PQE
  • Highly competent IT and data manipulation skills
  • Curiosity and problem solving skills, with determination and perseverance to identify opportunity for improvements and push them through
  • Ability to plan and implement strategy at a whole business and category level
  • Be able to assimilate new information quickly and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding
  • Strong communication skills and stakeholder management, with the ability to influence and use financial information to provide insight to non-finance managers and senior directors
  • Ability to boil down complex financial problems into easily understandable, actionable advice for non-Finance stakeholders
  • Ability to work cross functionally and build strong relationships at all levels
