About the role

Reporting to the Head of Product Programmes in Haircare, the Category Manager will be responsible for developing and delivering sustaining projects within the global Haircare category. A strong collaborator and influencer throughout the global cross team and wider business, the Category Manager is pivotal in inspiring, energising and managing the global development and execution of projects across Research, Design and Development (RDD), Operations and Commercial to extremely challenging timelines.

  • The product leader, with exemplary levels of passion, energy and commitment. Recognised by a global project team as the focal point for a project, driving appropriate decision-making to enable project success.

  • Bringing together a project leadership team that are accountable for satisfying the requirements of Dyson's project governance structure.

  • Driving and engaging a broad global cross team to deliver an authentic product vision specification that solves real problems and improves everyday life.

  • Regularly manages teams to present and ratify project direction with Dyson’s Leadership team as well as the Founder and Chief Engineer, Sir James Dyson.

  • Outlines and agrees the scope of project deliverables for each design phase, holding others to account and safeguarding project delivery.

  • Assesses and guides the maturity of upstream projects to ensure a smooth handover from the UK New Product Development(NPD) and New Product Innovation (NPI) teams. Defines a global project programme that successfully guides the project to teams in South East Asia, supporting our aspiration to double Dyson by 2025.

  • Ensures adherence with Dysons exemplary standards, meeting quality, safety, compliance and sustainability requirements. Pro-actively engaging with legal functions to ensure our intellectual property is protected.

  • Delivering market leading technologies to challenging project timelines within Dysons longest standing product category. Moving fast to stay ahead and sustain the Floorcare categories continued growth.

  • Manages both operational expenditure and product cost to deliver projects that meet our aspirational financial targets.

  • Works closely with the Global Engineering & Operations team, Quality team, Finance team and Commercial, to steer the project through regular governance and milestones, delivering the project with control to the start of production.

  • At all times, promotes the needs and preferences of the user. Leading user trials, user interaction assessments, competitor comparisons and detailed assessments of product specification. Ensuring that the vision agreed at TS is the right one and guiding any deviations to vision through careful change management.

About you

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, science or equivalent.

  • A capable engineer with a track record of delivering pioneering products or assemblies, from product invention through to tooling and production.

  • Has a well-developed ability to collaborate with and influence key project stakeholders to achieve successful project outcomes.

  • Able to assemble appropriate cross functional teams and lead them to an aligned conclusion.

  • Excellent problem solver with an established ability to manage complex technical challenges across a broad range of disciplines e.g. mechanical engineering, electronics, motors, software and connectivity.

  • Proficient verbal communicator with outstanding presentation skills capable of addressing all levels of the business.

  • Motivated by a desire to create revolutionary products from ideation to production. Requiring strong levels of perseverance. Adaptable to change, thrives in a fast-paced environment. A motivator who remains positive in the face of adversity.

  • Able to manage product/project costs. Ideally having commercial awareness in defining financially successful business propositions to support category ranging.

  • Detailed operational and manufacturing knowledge that can influence the direction of early project development.

  • Competent at recording, managing and prioritising project risks. Identifying and escalating decision making where appropriate.

  • Globally mobile to support trials, product launches and in-market activities.
