Commercial Analyst


United States - Chicago Office

About the role:

The Commercial Analyst is a highly cross-functional role supporting the business through complex data analysis and actionable insights/recommendations to help guide strategic decision making.

Main responsibilities:

Provide ongoing sales reporting and analysis-

  • Collect, analyze, and distribute sales results to the organization
  • Maintain and improve performance reports
  • Analyze data to evaluate performance versus forecasts and outline key risks and opportunities
  • Monitor and forecast marketing and sales trends as well as competitor activity
  • Measure effectiveness of marketing and retailer strategies
  • Communicate findings into reports for management and other stakeholders
  • Ensure data quality of all outgoing reports and analyses
  • Partner with Sr Manager to tailor reports for multiple purposes

Collaborate with other teams in Finance and external departments-

  • Review data and investigate sales issues or channel conflicts, inventory levels, forecast accuracy, retailer and product performance, supply chain, merchandising and promo activities, market performance
  • Support Category and Channel teams by providing data-driven analysis and insight
  • Produce data-driven reports and presentations to stakeholders
  • Ad-hoc analysis and projects
  • Build models and conduct scenario analysis involving interpretation of both quantitative and qualitative data to support evaluation of strategic options, commercial development, and investment decisions

Work with Sr. Manager to create actionable insights and recommendations from use of multiple data points & analyses. Initial areas of focus include:

  • KPIs
  • Sales Out
  • Trade stock
  • Brick & Mortar Investments
  • White Space

About you:

  • BA/BS degree 
  • 3+ years of proven experience in an analytics capacity 
  • Passion for data storytelling with focus on practical business results 
  • Exceptional critical thinking and analytical skills 
  • High proficiency with SQL language 
  • Expertise in MS Excel 
  • Experience using data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Looker) to convey actionable insights  
  • Detail-oriented with strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills 
  • Thrive in dynamic, fast-paced, ambiguous environment
  • GCP and Tableau experience a plus
